Reddit has pretty much replaced all the specialized forums and is great for getting help or finding obscure information for different specialized topics.

You have to curate your experience, and its all subreddits. I'm confused as to what you are talking about.
Find the subreddits that interest you and join them. If you want a more conservative or liberal feed, find conservative and liberal subreddits.

They banned the donald a decade ago and I got temp banned from an MLB subreddit for linking an X article that was about free agency because "X is a fascist platform and supporting it by linking to it made me a fascist".
