I’ve watched space shuttle launches from 15 miles down the beach (which is badass at night) but not actually witnessed it up close in person.

My son wants to see the Artemis launch on the 1st. It’s an 8 hour trip and I thought this would be a good bonding trip.

I saw a shuttle launch in the early 80s and toured Cape Canaveral a couple of days later and the crawler was still headed back to the building.

The wife (no pics) and I saw a space shuttle launch from Titusville once but never from Canaveral itself. I bet that would be a cool experience

One of my fondest memories of my childhood was watching STS-4 liftoff. It's something I will never forget.

110% make this trip.

Yes it is certainly a sight to see and the noise is incredible.

One thing to keep in mind is the launches are frequently postponed for a variety of reasons.

I have not, but my aunt and uncle (who died about six months ago) who live in Merritt Island and watch launches on the long pier behind their house. She's sent out a video before of some rocket taking off and it was pretty badass.

I used to have an office I had to support with a team down there and would talk to people at bars and restaurants who would come specifically for this purpose and be heartbroken when it didn’t happen.

My advice would be make it a part of a larger trip with other contingency options if it doesn’t happen because they really do reschedule the launches quite frequently.

I saw a night launch and it was one of the more amazing things I've ever seen. Makes you feel super patriotic.

The only negative it’s very hard to plan for , there are so many factors that play in your these schedules unfortunately they get scuffed a lot . Very cool experience if you get good weather and they actually launch

Weather and mechanical failures

I built a hotel on Disney property. Three year project. We drove over several times to watch launches. From that location, you know the weather is good enough.

I watched a SpaceX rocket launch from Cocoa Beach, FL a few years back after tacos and a bunch of coronas. Was a Top-5 day for me, everything just worked out awesome that day.

We were on a Caribbean cruise that stopped in Port Canaveral. Watched a rocket launch from the Lido deck, right at sundown with a beer in hand.

Got to see a night launch of the shuttle in 2000 from the VIP section a couple miles away. It was pretty awe inspiring. You could feel it every bit as much as you could hear it - from the ground shaking to the reverberations in your chest cavity. Freaking amazing.

I've seen several Falcon 9 rocket launches from Playalinda beach, which is only about 4 miles from the launch complex, and one shuttle launch from the Banana Creek Viewing location on the KSC site, which was about 3.5 miles away. The shuttle launch was obviously better in terms of views and intensity, but watching from Playalinda is still a great experience. Get there early and get a spot on the boardwalk between the parking area and the beach for a better view over the trees and mangroves.

Saw the Apollo launch when Neil Armstrong first walked on the moon. I was 13. 3 adults and 3 or 4 kids piled in the car for the trip. Stayed overnight on some bay beach, not sure exactly where. We could see the Saturn rocket in the distance. Had my little telescope set up, you could see the fuel vapor coming from the rocket. After launch we went home.
