Was St. George worth the effort? (rhetorical question)

Getting onto more local matters, I'm in STG, but I'm beginning to think that this whole thing was a waste of time. Yes, we have some solid, smart, honest people at the helm, and I appreciate their service to the community, but in a very few years, this will likely be all undone.
When I take a ride down Coursey Blvd., I see the future of STG, and it will likely become a "Blue" city by 2040. We all know what happens when a city turns Blue, and it's not good.
I'm pretty old, so I likely won't see it happen, or a new bridge, but demographics is destiny. BR is now poorer, I expect conditions to deteriorate there, Hillar Moore doesn't have money to run a decent office, the PD will decline in numbers, street maintenance is looking more like New Orleans every day.
THe law abiding people in BR will want to escape, many of them will come to STG, unfortunately, they will vote the same way they were taught.
I hope I'm wrong.

Biggest thing STG can do is do everything and anything in its power to be extremely tough on crime.
I understand that we have the EBRSO as our police, but doing all we can to get them to prioritize and police this area with an iron fist will be the biggest impacter.
Also, do all you can to disincentivize builders from building apartments. That will ruin demographics and bring crime.

Watching STG unfold from afar was encouraging. You did it. One of the success stories. Nothing but props to those who persevered.
Wish it long term success.
IDK how you can insulate it from demographic decay and corruption. Hopefully, some principled people do.

Fighting crime and having a strong educational system will attract people...people that are currently fleeing to Ascension and Livingston. That will create a positive feedback loop.
Look at Central.

Our town blew up during covid and we grew by almost 20k since the 2010 census wanting to escape Austin, Dallas, and Houston.
Which lead to dozens of apartments and hundreds of duplexes in what used to be country living and I dread what it brings.
I was begrudging it when going through all the construction with my 18 yo and he said “that’s capitalism.”
I said “when you are raising a family and want safety and security for your kids, you’ll realize that capitalism at all costs is a net negative. Transient living is a poison to a community.”

I’m in St George & idk. Most people here travel in and out of BR proper regularly.
Even if it provides some benefit, it won’t mean much if it comes at the expense of everything around it.
Probably too early to tell. It’s hard for me to imagine good public high schools anywhere in Louisiana.

Your damn right it was worth it.
BR needs to survive on it’s own rather than mooching off the rest of the parish.
Would you want BR to have some of it’s taxes go to the NOPD and NO administrative salaries?

I swear...I thought this thread was about a completely different subject until I opened it.
Could we get some context for those of us unfamiliar with the "St. George" subject matter?

Also the City-Parish Government is a huge conflict of interest and needs to be shite canned ASAP.

It's a canary in the coal mine, it's an indication of what is to come. Go eat at the Chimes East. We're trying to have an adult discussion, leave the "this thread is dumb" out. Don't open threads you don't want to read.

Coach Sid as mayor might be the only chance to get this done.

The problem with St George is that it's in Louisiana.
Creating a new city can't fix a shitty state.

So you get a home through capitalism but no one else can?
You are raising a retard. Congrats.

I’ve long said that anything short of a moat with check points and guard towers with 50 cal’s is going to be a complete waste of time.

Considering STG was getting crapped on by Baton Rouge regularly and never getting it's share back, it was absolutely necessary. When STG separated it sent a shock to BTR that they can no longer go to sleep on complaints from their constituents.
Remember, this whole thing came about because BTR wouldn't let STG have their own school district (BTR schools STILL at the bottom of the state).
