That's a pretty reasonable viewpoint. Actually, as we discover more of space, and discover there are less and less viable planets for life, this viewpoint becomes more and more reasonable every day.

Why would one notion of this really be seen as more wacky than another?
If "aliens" do exist somehow amongst us, they certainly would have to do so outside our current understanding of physical science?

A lot of people do. The priest that does a lot of exorcists and went on the Shawn Ryan show says sometimes while doing an exorcist the demon will present themselves as a grey or some other form of alien.

I also believe in the pre tribulation rapture of the church and have heard it speculated/taught that those left behind will possibly blame the disappearance of so many people on "aliens". It's interesting to me how alien life is suddenly such a big deal. That's just one theory depending on what you believe about end times eschatology. I don't know that I 100% agree with that viewpoint, but I do find it interesting.

Look up father Chad Ripperger from March 5th Shawn Ryan podcast. He says it within the first hour of the show, from a case he had where the demon presented himself in the form of an alien.

More space/more planets means discovering more planets that could support life by definition.
And its actually a dumb take. About as dumb as the native believing the white folk were demons wielding magic.
Religion/religious beliefs always hide in gaps of knowledge.
