Actually it’s very good. I’ve spent about two years, 3 to 6 months at a time, flying around the gulf.
They have a fish that looks like a cross between a wahoo and a king mackerel, big and testy, snapper, grouper and small tuna type of fish. Huge schools sometimes. Some big nasty sharks too. Look like tigers and bull sharks.

Oman has really good fishing, but its just out of the mouth of the Strait. Big mahi, giant trevally, and sailfish.

I wish the Med had better fishing. My theory is that it has been fished hard for literally tens of thousands of years and it has to get hard to maintain a solid fishery after that kind of pressure.

Fished it back in 03-04. Used some of these donut hand line rigs that the locals use. Would drop dead shrimp around pilings and pull up small tuna. Would catch what looked like barracuda at night. Might have been what Bigsampson talking about.

Should be much better now that our navy sunk dozens of IRGC ships to help improve the fish habitat

Dogtooth Tuna possibly? Google couldn't verify if they are in the Persian Gulf but Your description sounds accurate.
