Was reading an article today from the Houston. Chronicle (behind paywall) that discussed how some members are suing the church over how bylaws were changed and a new senior pastor was selected (son of the retired senior pastor).
I’m guessing maybe some of you are in the 90,000 plus members of the church and can tell us what’s happening.
Also, does the church still own a helicopter? I once went to an event at their location in Katy and saw Dr Ed young arrive on a chopper in their livery.

No. I missed the cut. Had to go to Third Baptist.

Something I’ve always wondered is what’s the difference between a 1st Baptist and a 2nd Baptist? And I ask that as a guy who’s been a member of a Baptist (no number attached) church for over 20 years.

No difference. Usually when you see a church named {town/city} 1st Baptist Church that is the first Baptist Church that was established in that town/city.

Idk but Baptists sure are an interesting bunch with the whole Believers baptism thing

I’m not a Baptist but I. The rural south my understanding is:
First Baptist = first Baptist Church in town.
Second Baptist Church = the church started for freedmen once segregation took hold after emancipation.

Crack open the Bible sometime and see if Jesus was sprinkled as an infant.

Sounds like a bunch of damn thieves.
Let me introduce you to a true tax exempt man of god, Jesse Duplantis.
His modest home helps him spread the word of Jesus all over St Charles parish

Every “Second Baptist” church I’ve encountered has been a predominantly black church, but I never knew the history of the name.

I used to go there to the main campus and liked it. Was never a member. I found the 90k number to be somewhat dubious as I always assumed that they had people on the rolls who were probably dead or had moved away 10 years ago.

Was curious as well and did some digging. This will give the best info. Basically the Young family (lawyers working on their behalf) hijacked the church by changing the bylaws over a holiday weekend in a hush hush meeting. They made all of their employees attend and vote in the changes.
LINK
With these changes Ed Young Sr. appointed his son as successor (removed the formal search process in bylaw change). From what I hear the son is just not fit for the job for a number of reasons. I believe the son cheated on his first wife and got a divorce which some would say should disqualify him. From what I could tell Ed Young Sr. was a pretty upright guy and this really tarnishes his reputation. He’s pretty old so not sure if he was manipulated in the whole deal or not. Prob. too generous.
Ed’s older son Ed Young Jr. has a church with some shady stuff going on in the Dallas area so maybe they are all in on it and just not good people. Idk.

I never saw a helicopter and I went to the Woodway campus for close to a year.
Ive also have been to his other son's church (Ed Young Jr started Fellowship Church in Grapevine). I agree with Ed Young Jr's theology, but his antics are a little much for me. Crazy stuff on stage (like riding a rollercoaster on stage during a service), flying around on a jet, living in University Park and such.
Ben Young is the one in the controversy for being handed the position in Houston. This all went down after I left Houston, so I have only read online.
