Daughter got in an accident today and her air bag didn’t deploy but the hood was pushed up and front end was messed up. Had to be towed away but not sure if anything major was damaged.

Price to repair is greater than the vehicle's value.

Repair cost vs resale value

Is the amount of to fix it more than the blue book value of the car?

In LA it is totaled if the cost to repair is more than 75% of the actual cash value.

Ok thanks. It’s a 2020 Honda LX with about 78k miles on it. My daughter’s first car and is so upset about the incident.

If a number of the air bags deploy, they are so expensive, that’s when you start getting into the totaled part!
Does the motor still run, does the A/C work?

Ive always been taught to not look down on people who speak broken English, because it means they know more than one language…. So i just assumed English wasnt the OP’s first language .

Airbag didn’t deploy? Honda? I would get it repaired if insurance covers. Tell your daughter not to sweat it. Stuff happens.

Actual Cash Value of the vehicle (same year, make, model, mileage) minus the salvage value of the vehicle versus the repair cost (repair cost may include cost of a rental as well).
Totalling out a vehicle is a math equation.

People don’t realize what a huge part of this is especially on a newish vehicle. Wrecked cars that can be repaired bring good $ at copart. Insurance starts looking at what they can get compared to storage fees, repairs and rental car fees and just total the car. Especially when parts supplies are tight.

Expect a check for about 14k...
Just went through this about a month ago...They will take blue book for the car right now and then comp it like you were buying a house with two or three similar cars on lots...
Your lawyer should get back to you with their first offer within a few days after you get the police report (this was 100% the longest part of the process)
As others have mentioned, you should get essentially two offers each time
(1) car value, they keep the scrap
(2) car value-you take the scrap off their hands
Odds are they will send you half the money when they write it off and the other half when they receive keys and title

When the Repair Cost + the Diminished Value Cost is greater than the Replacement Value minus the Salvage Value.

If the repairs equal or surpass 75% of the vehicles value in Louisiana.
