Solar at an Arkansas high school turns budget from a $250K deficit to $1.8M surplus

This happened over 4 years ago and has been proven those calculations were false. The best they could come up with was an 800k surplus over 3 years and that was also highly debated as probably being much lower. Even reddit idiots questioned if all this was 100% true which it turned out to not be.
If It's that successful you would think everyone would be going to solar instalation by now.

Solar has come down in price but I highly doubt it'll replace traditional energy. Awesome for my van build though.

Are they also tabulating the cost of purchasing and installation said solar panels, and any energy efficiency improvements to the budget? If that was done with long term debt, it can make a large purchase seem manageable but it adds to the debt load of the school.
Solar has it’s advantages and disadvantages, it can work in sunny areas, but you still need an electrical source at night, but with these solar installations, I think the goal is a zero power bill where, you install the panels and generate enough electricity to power the school during the day, sell the excess to the utility, and buy electricity at night or when needed. If there is a profit, on the power generation, it could be used to pay down the debt on the panels and upgrades.
But once you add debt servicing and paying off the panels, your new revenue stream is nearly nonexistent.

While I agree with how they implemented Solar (instead of destroying acres of wildlife habitat, I find the number don't match up. I would imagine they would save a good deal of money on lighting etc. but government talking about surplus is like insurance telling you that you are covered.

Yeah my son in law got duped by one of these installer ads a few years ago and it's been nothing but problems AND a net money drain. First they installed it wrong where it was only using half of the panels, then it took them forever to come out and try to fix their eff up, and then he realized it still wasn't generating enough electricity to pay for itself. And the poor sap is on the hook for 20 years while the company filed bankruptcy. Thank goodness I kept dragging my feet on letting any of them pitch my wife and I.
I'd love it if solar actually worked, but to date I've been thoroughly unimpressed.

Id like to see the funny math involved in that.
I guarantee it ignores the installation and maintenance costs, uses only peak production time output, and applies that output to the full 24 hour day every day.
