Another scenario might be playing out in regards to men’s basketball

What if Verge understands the financials of the buyout and just isn’t ready to do it but has told McM it would be in his best interest to look around and find another job. As these mid major jobs open up of McM could land one of those I could see a scenario where Verge lets him exit gracefully and maybe sweetens the deal a bit without having to pay the whole buyout. Then we go after The General or possibly already have something in place because Wade and Rouse are already well connected.
If he can’t find something then he stays another year. The incentive is it’s easier and looks better on a resume to take a job while you have one. We did a very similar thing with Trent Johnson. This would also explain why it’s taking some time and he hasn’t been fired.

AKA the Trent Johnson strategy.
Edit: should’ve read on further down.

Other than the Wade part, that would be a good strategy.
Time for something NEW, not a rehash of some guy who got run off.

He is getting the North Carolina job. Duke was almost available too. Would have been a massive bidding war.

Just informing you since you didn’t know who he was prior to his third season as head coach.

There would certainly have been rumors by now if CMM agent was out looking for jobs.

As the AD I would sure well hope so

85% of this place has talked themselves into believing Wade is coming back

I think i'd take the 10M rather than about $400K/yr at a mid-major.

What part of MID MAJOR do you not understand.
Let’s say the Stephen F Austin job opens up. They offer him 500k. We give him 500k also as a parting gift. He has a good job to try again and we get to move on at a much lower cost. From what I hear McM is a really good guy and very well liked. I’m not sure the appetite exists to kick him like we did Brian Kelly.

It seems like a really bad financial decision for MM since any mid-major job he could get would pay significantly less than the $2.4M (annually) he would be owed in the buyout. The only way I would consider it if I were MM is if LSU agreed to pay me a lump sum in the $7M - range, today, to walk away.
But that would make less financial sense in the short run for LSU if costs are an issue because that means LSU would have to pay MM's full (reduced) buyout today, plus Wade's, plus staff for both. As it stands now, if LSU fired MM today they would only owe the $2.4M over the course of the next year and they could make the bet that MM won't stay out of coaching the next 3 years to get the full value of his buyout. It seems like LSU would only be increasing it's "upfront" costs unnecessarily
I don't think LSU actually did anything. I think Trent saw the writing on the wall and bailed when he got a similar job at TCU. McMahon isn't getting a power conf. HC job. Any job he could get would be a mid/low major that pays him significantly less than his annual buyout. There's not much incentive for him to leave voluntarily. If I'm McMahon and I know LSU wants to replace me, I'm making LSU fire me.

Dude that’s nowhere close to what he will make on his current contract.

If he wants it. It's up to him at this point.

Holy shite!
Why would McMahon accept $500k to voluntarily leave if he would be owed in excess of $8M if LSU fires him?

I think there are people who don’t understand just how big the liabilities Woodward left LSU with.
McMahons contract is absolutely insane. Particularly given the history of Murray state coaches before him

Trent also didn’t have a 7 year guaranteed contract like MM, f you Woody.
I’ve read if MM were to just walk away he would owe LSU $2million. So we’d have to waive that.

He’ll get 80% of his remaining contract, which is less than $7 million paid over 3 years and reduced by any other job he would take. He’s 47, he would definitely look to land somewhere.

Or just the general concepts of contracts and money.
The money isn't outrageous. It's the 7 year term when you have a coach who sucked awfully from season 1 that is the problem.
