I keep hearing about this time being, but I've never seen him/her. What is the time being fighting for, and why is the USS Ford in its service?

Can't fault them.
I wouldn't want to be fighting a war for Israel either

They were pushing a year long deployment when most carrier deployments are 6 mo the. They did some 9 month deployments when it was popping off in Iraq/Afghanistan years ago. Deferring major maintenance and pushing sailors that hard for that long is bound to have some big issues.

P.A. System: 'Any crew member suffering from smoke inhalation, please report to the medic's office at the front of the ship.'
Five minutes later from the P.A. System: 'ATTENTION! Everyone located at the front of the ship please move back. Our propellers at the stern are now above the water line!'

Seriously one good thing to come out of this is shaking the rust off our military equipment.
Best to find issues now with a feckless adversary and remediate them than if we were up against China or Russia and ran into these things

The fire happened March 12 and the Ford was still fully operational and flying missions. They are headed to Crete now for repairs, supposed to take 7-10 days. Only in the last day or two did officials confirm it would leave station and head to Crete for repairs, so they were still flying sorties after the fire.

Dare we wonder if the fire was intentional?

The USN is such a shitshow of incompetence and has been for years.
I’m shocked their enlisted personnel on the blue side were able to join the military.

Fun fact, sometimes fabric (cotton) when freshly pilled up after being in a drying will build up heat and sponteneously combust.
That happened at a restaurant in Houma at the WOW Cafe back in 2007.
