Football Coach that became a Politician-who do you have as the best?

So of all the football coaches, college or pro, that went into politics; who would you pick as the one that did the best in their second career…?
I have our boy from Alabama, Tommy Tuberville!
Who ya got?

Ditto for Tuberville

Bud Wilkinson ran for senate from OK. Unfortunately 1964 was not a great year for the GOP. He lost to uber-prog Fred Harris, but only 51-49. A stronger prez nominee than Goldwater and he probably would have won.

Tim Walz represents his people like no other.

Tom Osborne was more of a moderate than conservative and could not even win the Republican Primary Governor's race in freaking Nebraska. Even Cornhusker fans that adored him knew better than Eurocat.
Have to go with Tuberville because the pickings are slim. Still can't stand the guy because he was the coach that replaced Mike Leach at Tech.

I couldn’t stand the dude as a coach, but I definitely like him as a Senator.

He took some licks for denying the military promotions but with good reason. Liberals within the military were trying to argue that the supreme court ruling on abortion to return it to the states should not apply because military personnel are "temporarily" stationed all across the states and globe.
Tuberville saw it for exactly what it was. If the military was exempt, soon all federal employees, state and city officials and 1000 NGOs would use that as precedent and enable an end around (had to throw in some coach speak) the ruling.
Regardless of how one feels about abortion, this nonsense of using congress to usurp the judicial branch was avoided. Good for him.
Now if we could just stop the judicial branch from usurping the executive branch

Saban or Urban Meyer. Or Mike Ditka!

When will he pull the "abandon the team mid dinner" in politics?

His tenure has been pretty quiet, though. Basically just cutting budgets without structural reforms and getting out maneuvered by more seasoned political opponents. I fear he’ll be a one-termer, and his influence won’t last beyond it. Granted, Mayor Broome could hardly have left behind a worse fiscal situation for her successor than she did.

Kind of wish he'd do that pine box thing.
