LA also has the 5th highest Total Sales & Excise Tax Burden

You can tell by the quality of our roads and schools compared to those in Texas how much better stewards of our tax dollars our Louisiana leaders are.

It will be interesting to see how they calculated for Florida. I assume this is still the case, it has been a few years since I lived there, but they had a different sales tax within 5 miles of the beach. This was mainly so that tourist were paying a large portion of the sales tax bill.

Washington is about to go flying up the list with their shiny new 10% state income tax on high earners.

Gotta throw in the private school “tax” since public schools are dog shite in most parishes

Louisiana roads suck, but having the hemispheres biggest river at its widest part is a challenge. The amount of elevated interstate over huge bodies of water is high. Most states have a lot more people than Louisiana and less complicated infrastructure.

School situation is a problem but Texans pay 3x the property taxes.

All the good roads you have to pay a toll on. Everytime I get back from Dallas I have a bill for over $30

And FL (Desantis) working hard to rid Florida homesteads of property taxes (excluding the school millage).

One thing I would nitpick about the list is that it weighs every tax classification equally.

Property tax and sales tax are going to impact your checkbook very differently.

It's nice that you can buy your groceries, clothes and other items tax-free in New Hampshire but just wait until that 5% property tax bill comes. On the other hand Alabama has to fork over a steep tax for their Little Debbie snacks but they pay dirt cheap property tax.

The list treats those two expenses equally. They aren't.

And their revenues taken in will plummet as all those rich people head south.

You hardly ever hear Louisiana Republicans talk about being for small government any more.

There's already a substantial tax exemption for your homestead.

DeSantis is going to have to come up with a plan to replace that revenue. State income tax is a non-starter, so I guess you look at increased tourism-based sales/bed taxes.

He's going to kill the FL economy trying to win political points.

It's Wallet hub so this sounds like bullshite. That Texas property tax can mean tens of thousands more in taxes compared to Louisianans.

I only pay about 3 grand less in property taxes here in Jefferson parish vs what I used to pay in Texas. Similarly assessed properties.

The nice feeling I get when I stroke that (slightly) lower property tax check goes away pretty quickly when I realize I’m paying about 14k in Louisiana income taxes after deductions and credits.
