Didn’t see Sinners or most of the others, so I’m curious. I know he was good in Creed. That’s prob the last time I saw him in anything.

It was a fine performance for what the movie was but I’m very suspect of the win.

I liked Sinners plenty just like I thought Black Panther was good. But nominations outside of score or best song, costume design etc is a farce.

We all know why he won. There was actually an article saying how he got a lot of sympathy vote after the awards where the Tourette’s guy shouted out the N word

What a joke

No idea the only nominated movie I saw was one battle after another (del toro was way better than Penn BTW). But it was a high profile role and he played two characters and the movie was well reviewed as was his performance so I’m not sure what the issue is. Sounds like a reasonable choice to me

Wouldn't have even been nominated if he was white. Plenty of others could have pulled off that casting just as well.

He was fine, but I walked out of that movie far more impressed by Miles Caton, Jack O'Connell, and Lindo.

He's a better actor than LeBron too.

Ande Wunmi Mosaku killed it, too

She nailed her role in Loki/Deadpool too

Weird to call a 40-year-old woman an up and comer, but her last 5 years have her on a trajectory

MBJ was great, Was he the best? I dunno.

Can't imagine giving it to anyone else this year.

I agree, he did well playing to different people with two different personalities. I'm not mad at the win.

Jesse Plemons is the one that should've been nominated.

Leo was just Leo. It was a good performance, but it feels like I've seen this from him before.

Chalamet was good. wouldn't be mad if he won.

I thought MBJ did a good job, but not Oscar worthy. Did he win it for his role as Smoke, or Stack? It feels like cheating to combine them when everyone else was considered for one role. Any actor can play two different parts.

I thought both Leo and Chalamet did a better overall job.

It's hard to look the Oscar winners without wondering how much the DEI requirements to qualify factored in. It's like an asterisks mark

I usually really like Michael B Jordan, but my adult sons and I watched Sinners together and walked out thinking the movie and the acting were laughably bad. Then we started hearing how great it was from everyone else, followed by Oscar buzz.

I used to know when I watched a movie that would be in the mix for various Oscars, even if I wasn't necessarily a fan of the movie.

Either I am no longer a good judge of movies or the criteria has drastically changed. It's probably a little (or lot) of both.

This is why he's always overlooked. He's penalized for consistently being great. I thought he should have won. MBJ was my 2nd pick.

I liked the movie alright. Better than the Leo movie. This kinda feels like a career recognition award from MBJ.

The most puzzling to me is It got best original screenplay. Technically its original but its beat for beat the same movie we have seen a few times over the years.

If Ethan Hawke had given that performance in a bigger movie, I think he'd have won. The Academy prefers huge expansive films over small movies that take place in one bar.

I thought Jack O’Connell was pretty good in it. Nothing was wrong with Delroy Lindo’s performance, but felt if someone was going to be nominated for best supporting from Sinners it should be O’Connell. I honestly don’t care much though. None of these roles are earth shattering.

Personally, I would have given it to Ethan Hawke.. he really carried that movie...

I dont have an objection to MBJ winning it though.. he did a great job, too...

I think any one of the nominated could have won, so what's the big deal?

Martin Landau won for playing Bela Lugosi. That's close.
