Tips for dealing with anxiety from people who have dealt with anxiety

My anxiety and depression comes back out of nowhere about 3 or 4 times a year. Lasts a few days and then goes away. It's not nearly as debilitating as you used to be. These days it's just more aggravating then anything, but it still sucks.
Exercise definitely helps me. Squats are a really good one. It puts a lot of pressure on the muscles in the back of your legs, and going up and down and the change and equlibirum seems to be good too.
The more I've learned about it, the more I try to focus on the vagus nerve and the parasympathetic nervous system. So much of it has to be with getting your body out of fight and flight mode and reducing cortisol. I think it's worth researching if you deal with anxiety and haven't yet. Something as simple as looking out of the corner of one eye for 10 seconds and then looking out of the corner of your other eye for can help some poepole. Or tense the muscles in your feet for 10 seconds, and then tense your calf muscles for 10 seconds and keep working up your body.
This is a pretty solid video…
Youtube also is good for background music and noise if you're dealing with anxiety – parasympathetic nervous system music.
Good luck to anyone going through this. It's no fun, but every storm eventually blows over and the sun comes back out!

Try acceptance and commitment therapy. You can be self taught wi the books like “ACT Made Simple” and watching YouTube videos.
The good news about anxiety is it’s very simple to treat (doesn’t mean it’s easy). Attaching meaning/your values to gradual exposure is going to work most of the time.

I would also recommend psychedelic-assisted therapy - it gives you a real chance to address root causes and not just tamp symptoms down.

Klonopin is the only thing that helps me in peak anxiety, like suicidal level anxiety usually caused by a trigger. But it’s very easy to become over reliant on it, so I try only use it when I absolutely have to.
Going for walks when the weather is nice seems to help too. I can’t really do any other types of exercise anymore because it makes me dizzy.

Is psychedelic therapy legally available in Texas?

I know it’s not ideal but maybe a small dose of Benzo for the flare up
I’ve found that just keeping one in my pocket for days that I can’t push through, helps more than anything. Knowing you have that crutch there available. For the really bad days is comforting for me
It was Xanax for me but… I am.. the walrus..
Just knowing you weren’t in your island alone with no outlet/medicine readily available did help me as well

Start with seeing a therapist/counselor.
Everyone should see one regardless of what’s going on in their life but especially someone battling anxiety which is closely linked with depression.
Follow their suggestions

It’s crazy that this is the health board and people recommend taking pills and paying to talk to a liberal til you agree with them

Something that may help is taking Glycine and L-Theanine supplements. It can help to calm you down without sedating you.

probably people who realize that "just take some mushrooms about it" isn't the best universally accepted advice that can apply to everyone.

Ibogaine for vets in Texas
It's legal in Colorado, which is where all Texas people go on vacation anyway.
There are also many legal facilities in other countries.
ETA: Ketamine-assisted therapy is legal everywhere basically.

Leave it to OysterPoBoy to show up in a thread about anxiety and immediately work on reducing his prostate cancer risks

Because everyone has been brainwashed into thinking psychadelics are bad and the pharmaceutical industry is a savior.

quote:Yeah. We're casually talking about taking pills and seem to be indifferent to finding root causes for more permanent relief (or healing!) from symptoms.

When I had a prescription to Ativan is when I really bottomed out.
It's true what OP said - for some people, the thought of knowing you can take a benzo if things really gets bad is reassuring and works as a tool. But for me, I think that taking benzos eventually is what made me bottom out, because when I wasn't on them, things go really low. It's why so many doctors won't prescribe them.
