And apparently Saints feel they have that in Shough. Shough’s salary the next few years is allowing us to spend big and hopefully make a run.

I think this is a simplistic way of looking at it. I understand the whole “age” thing but he still was a rookie as far as pro ball goes. He also had a subpar supporting cast. He 100% has things he needs to work on but Shough showed more than enough to warrant some type of hope and excitement.
Edit: and he’s already putting in work this offseason. I’m excited for year 2.

Kid has some serious talent
ETA: He led all rookies from his class in wins with only starting half a season. That’s pretty decent!

When you are playing behind half an offensive line, 3rd string receivers, a 4th string HB, and have 2 guys catching passes that would be guaranteed to be on another team.
Dude was working with vapors by the end and still had a winning streak going. If you actually watched the games and saw how often he had too and did evade an insane rush, you know this kid has "it".

I think it’s a great position to be in but there isn’t many nfl QBs who’ve won a super bowl with a qb on a rookie deal. Mahomes and Wilson are your only ones. Finding your qb is the ticket and building a foundation around him but it’s rare a team gets it done within that rookie contract and it’s not the end all be all

Agreed. And the clock to win a SB has started. No surprise to see the saints move aggressively here and waste none of his remaining rookie deal.
