2019 with an 8 speed. Started doing the shudder thing at 75,000 miles. I did a complete fluid flush at 125,000 that helped some. Moving to a region with hills made it worse but I managed to delay until 175,000 miles. It is frustrating but I have only had to change the oil and replace the tires other than the shudder issue. $7200 gets me another 3 years / 100,000 miles. Unfortunately there isn’t an improved design option for the 8 speed.

Anybody else been able to delay replacement until high mileage?

Edit - I stated fluid flush but meant complete fluid and filter change and replacing the magnet.

Yikes. First Ford, 17 years, zero issues. On year 5 of the second, no issues.

Just had to replace the rear differential on my 2018 F150 KR at 83K. Thing shredded to pieces internally. Sounded like the prop flying off a B17.

Did a 2014 Sierra 1500 with 120000 miles about a month ago.

I don't drive it often (my son drives it), but the check engine light came on and the codes all pointed to transmission issues.

The folks at the transmission shop told me it's very common for this era Sierras and Silverados to have torque converter / transmission issues. Once fixed, they're usually good to go.

Everyone i know with a gmc or Chevy truck had a transmission or major engine issue. Meanwhile I have 250k miles on my Toyota 4.7 lexus.
Though I also got 330k out of a 4.7 Ford van

I’m at 125,000 on my 2019 now and just did a flush about ten thousand miles ago. It fixed it for a while but it’s starting to act up again. Zero other problems though.

I feel like I'd be in a living hell if I was on a car lot looking for a Silverado. Is it a bad credit thing or what?

Not yet for me. I’ve got a 2020 with 170,000. Only replaced tires, battery, and oil to this point. I did a transmission flush and filter at 115,000. No issues yet.

I got a 2003 with about 270,000. Noticed Monday shifting from 2 to 3rd is slipping. I will have to replace it in the near future. Queuing do I get it rebuilt or buy a remanufactured one? I ain’t buy a new truck no time soon.

175k miles is pretty high. Personally I’d just get a new truck.

I just went through this with my 2018 Sierra. While assessing the transmission they also found a cracked motor mount and a leaking water pump.

I just put a new radiator on it a year ago too. I decided to not dump more $ into it and replaced it with a Tundra.

2017 Silverado. I had to replace the torque converter at 48K miles three years ago and had to replace the transmission three months ago at 75K miles.

Why didn’t you do a transmission fluid change with filter earlier?

I had the dealer flush my Sierra at 40,000. No issues yet. Hope to keep it going strong another 10 years.
