If they agree to undergo another strike, will Hollywood be finished

They are still reeling from the last strike, and looking for another one.
As early as this month
Plus they are looking to strike AGAINST their union.
LINK
I think another ends them, permanently decentralizing the industry
I mean, it has trended that way, punctuated by the last strike.

Ssshhh... they're on the right side of history.
Or something.
Or something.

In their shoes, I don't know what else they can do. . .but sticking it to their overlords as their overlords are hanging by a thin thread seems like a bad move

AI movies and tv won't be as good, but they will cost pennies on the dollar and also be able to be made quickly and in high volume.
They'll crank out infinite cheap slop and be able to turn very good margins on it.
The idea of spending 200+ million dollars and 2 years on a project wil sound completely insane soon, especially since even that doesn't guarantee success.

I feel like this should always be tagged with "at first"
the technology increases exponentially. Think about where it was just 5 years ago. . .now what happens when you give them 10 more years
But still, Live Action won't be the first to go
I have been on record predicting voice-acting will probably be all AI in a couple years
Animation will be behind that by a couple more years

You can easily go broke wagering people won't be dumb enough to destroy themselves with their own stupidity

They have done nothing over the last several years that would make me think their existence is justified. If the union was disbanded and they all quit the business, I don't think we'd have trouble replacing them.
This will likely frick up all of our favorite shows, though, again.

Anybody will be able to make a movie. Not just talking head dramas but spectacular epics

They may want to lear to code.

Justine Bateman warned them about this shite last time, but they wouldn't fricking listen.

Agreed. There is also an aspect that most never seem to understand. Future generations will be raised on more and more AI content. I am old AF and I have watched tastes change over the years. I remember when the Star Wars prequel trilogy came out and they released the character photos. I thought "what is this garbage"? It looked like someone with a crappy digital camera took pictures in the back room of a grocery store. Gone was the depth of field, the better lighting, the drama of similar character photos from the OT. Look at the posters for the PT, IMO, they pale in comparison to the OT. Yet, that is what people born in the early 90s were "told" Star Wars should look like. I can make the same case on digital movie cameras vs film as well. I still prefer the grain and depth of field and lighting of movies made from about 82-95, before digital took over.
So AI doesnt have necessarily have to get as good as "human created" content, future generations will be raised on what most of us may find as inferior. But that's all they will know. In addition, I predict at some point AI will be DESIRED over human creations by future generations. Every generation has to reject the previous status quo in some way and claim their "own" art. I think at some point, art created by humans will be seen as "old-fashioned". Sure, some will still be around, but it will be niche.
And this doesn't even begin to address the economic factors that will lead current studios to move in that direction and for younger people to use these tools because they can't afford a Red camera or whatever the latest is.

If you mean the "Hollywood" we've all grown up on, then likely yes. But there will be a Hollywood in some fashion. It just may be hardly recognizable to its past self.

Yes, even without the strike they’re in real peril as it stands already

Real actors and actresses aren’t going anywhere. Society wants to idolize them, fantasize over them, and obsess over them.

Not to mention content creators on YouTube.
Kids don’t care about Hollywood as it stands.
The real stars for that generation are content creators not owned or managed by Hollywood.
They’re already massive F’d.

Yea, another strike doesn't seem like a real smart move given the direction of the industry but I think uniquely attractive and smart actors will always be in demand. Supporting cast, probably not so much.
The problem with AI is it's databased. Even if you create a new actor that's say a combination of 3 of the best actors of all time, it's still based on limited historic information.
Whereas millions of unique human beings are born every day and even if just one of the millions born in a year has the talent to become a good actor you have someone who unique rather than a historic facsimile.

quote:i was listening to an industry insider podcast a few months back. They were saying one of the major issues is the lack of genuine movie stars. Guys or gals whose name on the marquee guarantees a film AT LEAST makes it's money back.

Social media ensures we can't make anymore
Tom Cruise is the closest we have, they said.
Note: not sure which podcast it was, sorry so vague
