Anthony Wilson hit "the shot" at the buzzer that beat Memphis State (that's what they were called back then) in 1986? It sent 11 seeded LSU to the Sweet 16 and was only Wilson's 6th point of the game and it rolled around the rim for what seemed to be an eternity. Back then the NCAA first round was held on different college campuses, like the women's tourney is today. That game was incredible and even though it wasn't full of just LSU fans I don't ever remember hearing the Deaf Dome louder than when that shot went in. The Tigers knocked off Purdue in double OT to get to play a loaded Memphis State team with Baskerville Holmes, Vincent Askew and William Bedford. The late Don Redden scored 23 for the Tigers in that game. LSU would later go on to beat Kentucky (after losing 3 times previously). I also went to my only Final 4 to watch the 2006 team after their magical run. God, I miss LSU men's basketball being relevant!

I was watching that one on television, but I did go to Atlanta the next week to watch us beat Kentucky to go to the Final Four and then went to Dallas for the Final Four.

Was that also Jim Hawthorne’s “Ricky Blanton SWISSSHHH!” call?

That's awesome! I was 20 and "snuck" in after working one of the concession stands during the first half. Good times!

I was at both of those rounds, didn't make the Final Four.

I was there but was on the opposite side of the court so was hard to see what actually happened right before the shot but I saw Anthony pick up the ball and shoot from the corner as the buzzer sounded, Nothing but net. Cool thing is I was working part time student job for Dept of Education and my superior let me go watch the game while still being on the clock so I wouldn't lose any pay.

Was anyone else on here at the PMAC in the later 90s when an opposing team fan (I think from Grambling) drew out a machete and started waving it at the student section? He was kicked out of course.

I was probably there, but not old enough to remember.

Your wording makes it seem like you are asking if anyone was on tRant while they were at a game in 1986, before tRant or the ability to be online in the PMAC even existed.

I was there and for the Double-OT win over Purdue. I think the NCAA banned teams from hosting tourney games after that year.

My wife and I were on the other end sitting sandwiched between 8 Memphis State fans, 4 on row in front of us and 4 on row behind us. They talked back-and-forth over us at every timeout making their plans to go to ATL for the Regionals the next weekend. LOL. Didn't work out for them.

I was there with my younger brother and two friends. After the shot went in, I turned to high five my brother and he had passed out and his eyes were rolled back in his sockets. I threw some leftover ice in his face and he woke up. Scared the shite out of me and, and killed SOME of my buzz.

I agree with your memory of the shot. Redden missed the initial shot, and Wilson got the rebound near the paint and put it up. It bounced a few times and rolled in. TIGERS WIN, TIGERS WIN.

Ricky Blanton at 6’6” guarding their 7’1’’ center with muscle and hustle was special.

Yes.
In the student section

Don Redden put up a shot that came off the rim hard and the ball somehow got on the floor and squirted out to Anthony.

He was magical that game with the outside shot

CSB: I warched him play at Plain Dealing High School

I raised my hand.

Those were the days!! Early round games were played at on campus sites at times.

I remember Gene Katy the Purdue coach and The Memphis coach raised hell and they quit doing this.

Great games.
