Virginia Democratic Senators vote themselves a 278% pay raise

Let's hear it for affordability! 
This coming along with a budget that proposes to tax even dog walking fees. Ye gads!

Legislators in Virginia could see a nearly 300% pay increase if an amendment added to the budget by Democrats in the state Senate makes it to Gov. Abigail Spanberger's desk.
The Democrat controlled Virginia Senate and House of Delegates have both passed their versions of the commonwealth's budget, largely along party lines.
The Senate version of the budget, which passed Thursday, now includes an amendment to increase the salaries of state senators and delegates to $50,000 annually.
This coming along with a budget that proposes to tax even dog walking fees. Ye gads!

Increase to 50k or an increase of 50k. I was expecting to see something like 250k. But 50k to drop your job and be in public office is still pretty shitty.

Very low pay but some decent perks that probably add up.

67 cents per mile is not much

the age old argument here is pay them a professional wage, so they don't keep their private sector jobs so they'll be less likely to turn to graft,corruption, and back room deals.

NY's legislature is a full time job so they have a lot of time to figure out more ways to get their hands in the taxpayer's pockets.

Why do you think assholes in LA spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to get elected to the Public Service Commission, which incidentally does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BUT APPROVE UTILITY RATE HIKES?
The kickbacks are phenomenal....

Do these meetings have to have a purpose?
Some quick math says, if every weekday you schedule 2 “meetings” a day, 250x400, that can easily get you to 6 six figures plus you get a mileage check.
Sounds like a sweet gig.
