A good coach can coach right? So what if he's a masshole.

But Kiff is blowing it out of the water in understanding embracing and being part of LSU football culture. shite like this from this morning

Why'd he post that...well go back to the Ole Miss game 2024. One of the great student section moments. (NSFW language)

Kelly would never. Does this stuff matter for winning games? No. But building the excitement and culture around the fanbase in the off season before hes coached a game....doing a way better job there than BK ever did.

The culture aspect had nothing to do with his failure here. If he would have won big, the fans would love him.

He was lazy and rathered playing golf than scouting, recruiting, socializing/interacting with the fan base.

I think Kelly was fully motivated and intended on giving his all here but when his early hires didn’t pan out, Woodward made him swallow his pride and rehire people he previously let go and bring in Frank Wilson etc, he got a case of the screw its and stopped trying. In Kelly’s eyes if Woodward was gonna micromanage him then screw it im gonna coast and let Woodwards guys do their things.

I get why Woodward bit on Kelly. Makes sense on paper. In real life it was a huge miss on the things that make LSU what it is. Couple that with an overall lack of effort and thinking that a title would be handed to him just because he’s competent and it makes a huge miss. Kelly was never going to be the right guy in BR

I also think that 2023 defense had a lot to do with his downfall. He had a generational offense and all his defense had to do was literally not be the worst defense in school history.

I think he knew in that moment that was his chance, especially considering it was a down year in the SEC and across the country with no real dominant team.

If our defense is just average, we win it all going away, and I don’t believe he ever recovered from that blunder.

I would actually argue that this is part of him as the coach that builds a culture. A winning culture that recruits the best recruits. It’s an intangible that’s a little thing that can lead to wins long term. Now it won’t mean anything without anything else and won’t lead to wins alone. But it’s all the little details that matter.

BK didn’t need to play Boosie to win. He just needed to be invested, which he wasn’t. I bet you Curt Cignetti would win at LSU and he wouldn’t do it this way. Each coach has their own style. This is Lane’s style, and it works for him. I do think the culture stuff is overrated. Just be good at your job and win. Then LSU will take care of itself.

I assume the job was pitched to him as "it's so easy Les Miles and Ed O did it". Turns out that narrative is complete nonsense.

Woodward deserves the blame for a lot of shite. But blaming him for Brian Kelly’s laziness is hilarious. If that were true, a true competitor would have still gone out and made the most of whatever situation he had. Paul Skenes doesn’t phone it in bc the team around him sucks. Brian Kelly fricked up from the beginning by firing people he shouldn’t have fired. And I’m not talking about coaches. He cleaned house on the support staff bc he is an arrogant jackass that thinks he knows better than the employees who was present for 3 natties. He then preceded to make shitty hires. Brian Kelly is to blame for Brian Kelly’s failures.

It doesn't have to be a cultural fit. Saban nor Les fit here culturally.

But you know what BK did? He bought into the hype. The same hype a bunch of you fans did. "This is LSU, we naturally win with our talent" "Last 3 coaches won championships here, and O was an idiot and Les ate grass, how hard can it be"

Those 2 lines were repeated during the coaching search loudly by quite a few of you.

So BK tested it. And the first year it almost worked. We won the SEC West, beat Bama, and BK and the rest of the coaching staff started to buy into the hype.

But BK took it to heart and thought he could just coast. Put "decent" coaches with good players and we should win it all, because thats the dream we all wanted.

But its not that simple. You need to have guys who play for the team, and not just themselves. To many NIL babies and guys protecting themselves for the draft. Its gonna take work in the era of college football and while Im impressed with Lane, I dont care about the results this year. I care about year 2 and 3 and 4 and 5. BECAUSE THATS when coaches show their worth. Is he still grinding or did he get lucky and win the big game and start to coast?
