Dealing with a family member who thought the illegal alien issue was way out of control under Biden. But also simultaneously thinks ICE is bad and Trump is being too harsh. He says it’s too much trouble to deport once they are in, he also says the border wall is bad and useless (somehow holds both of these thoughts, I said if it’s useless then why is it bad?)
He also talks about how bad the food supply and how much poison is in our food. And then when I talk about taking junk food off of SNAP, he says that’s just being mean and punitive.
He also says things like “it’s both sides”, and that if a candidate simply runs as a “moderate” that actually makes them a moderate.
These are the people that are going to vote for that twerp in the TX Senate race. And flip the mid terms to the Dems. They want the things, but don’t want to do what it takes to get the things. So therefor we can never actually do anything of any productive value.

Sounds like your family member could sit around and argue with himself all day.

Maybe he just enjoys getting you wound up?

Concerned moderates have zero pull or influence in today’s hyper partisan political environment.
This thing will play out to its conclusion, for better or worse.
There’s no going back at this point.

Change TX to KY and I’d think you were friends with Massie.

Wow your family member has the ability to think for himself unlike yourself. You just repeat whatever you hear from fox or your dumbass friends at work. Probably haven’t had an original thought since Nam but you’ll go on a message board to shite on your family about how stupid they are.

I assume this family member isn't paying taxes.

He doesn't sound very Centrist. Not sure what to call it. Schizophrenia maybe?

We all are a slave to 2 party. At this point to get stuff done you have to accept the extreme ends of each party. Like it or not but it is true. Moderates floating in the gray are a problem.

And this is what I try to make people see here when they think that Democrats "are done" or "can't win another election," or "will never be in the White House again."
Your family member—and a few million just like him—are the ones who elect the president.
Everybody else just cancels each other out. There's no chance that I'm voting D and there's no chance that they're voting R.
But your family member is a typical "swing voter."
Those people who remain "undecided" up until the day of the election even though the choices are so different from each other that you can't imagine how anybody could possibly still not know who they are voting for.
As you pointed out, they are immune to logic and reason. They hold two completely self-contradictory opinions at the same time as a matter of course. Politically, at least, they are as dumb as a box of rocks. They are super uninformed and don't want to know anything.
And they get to elect the POTUS. Which is exactly why the FF never intended for someone like that to vote.

When people say stuff like this I don't understand it.
There are at least 4 parties on my ballot every race. There is no mandate that people only can vote R or D. I'm not enslaved to have to vote for one of those two. I can vote Libertarian or Green Party every election any time I want to (and have done so, although it's been a couple of decades or more since I have), and some years there are more choices than even that.
If people are "enslaved" to voting R or D, they are enslaving themselves. They can vote for someone else whenever they want to.

That’s not a centrist.

That's exactly the group that DOES have pull in a hyper-partisan environment. Look at the trends; our elections are decided by the middle 15%-20% that's barely politically engaged. They vote on slogans and feels, and unfortunately their votes count.

Centrists are people who never grew up
On paper, people should be free to do as they please if they aren’t harming others. In practice, legalizing degeneracy forces everyone else to participate. Gay marriage? Now you have to bake the cake.

I think there are a lot of conservatives and constitutionalists are concerned by the means in which ICE operates inside the borders of a sovereign country. There’s a thing in the constitution called title 12 that limits a military from operating inside the borders of the US. The “by any means necessary” mindset is playing with fire because undoubtedly the Dems will be in office one day and will have authority to fund their own federal militia. They’ll probably call it the the fricking “black panthers” and send them out collecting guns from the “facist whites.”

Why would you take junk food off of snap? Junk food is cheap and high calorie? It’s made from the most basic crappy ingredients. Corn, sugar, grains, oils. Horrible for you, but it’s shelf stable and will keep you alive. You want them eating chicken, steak and fresh produce?? That would cost way more

I see this as a good trait. One must be able to understand all sides of an argument.

They are going to do this with or without precedent if they get the power back, and "both sides are bad" people / Libertarians will help them do it.
