From Millinglaw.com site:
Dear Clients,
After 130 years of practicing law in the State of Louisiana, the law firm of Milling Benson Woodware, L.L.P. has closed its practice of law and will cease providing professional services, effective as of 5 PM, February 18, 2026. I'd love to know the real reason. After all this time to suddenly close all operations effective immediately basically is crazy.

I'm no lawyer, but I don't think you can just stop working on a pending matter, right?

Per Google images this Firm looks like a mausoleum save for a few younger attorneys. I doubt they give a shite about AI.

Based on the posting on their website, looks like they are allowing their current attorneys to bring all ongoing cases with them to their new firms and current clients have until 3/27 to reach out to this firm for any updated contact info.
Partners said "F it, we're out" and just closed shop

Private equity buyout / investment slowing down?

Good. keep 'em coming. Can we get Morris Bart and Mckernan to follow suit?

Don't know the specifics of what happened here, but few people realize what a fragile thing a law firm is. The people responsible for the firm's earnings are free to walk out the door at any time and take their work with them. Don't care how old and established the firm is. If the wrong people leave (or just the wrong clients) it can get ugly in a hurry.

Looks like they wanted to get one more Mardi Gras in as a firm & then go out for good on Ash Wednesday.

Fine with me...one less law firm

Not surprising when they can’t spell the name of the firm correctly “Woodward”
This firm has been dead for 20 years

Some of the refugees just started a new firm (Legacy Litigators) so no such luck unfortunately.

Private equity buyout
Some major firms are looking to sell out to PE. A problem is ethical rules that say lawyers cannot share profits from legal work with non-lawyers. But I think they are finding ways around that.
Incidentally, I ran into a surgeon from the Northeast who sold out to PE. He hung around for about a year but then cashed in his chips. Once he did, the deal went south fast.
