Given this list, how would you rank these bad sequels in relation to the drop off from the previous movie in the franchise? Not necessarily the worst movie, but simply how bad was it COMPARED to the previous one.

Batman & Robin (proceeded Batman Forever)
Thor: Love and Thunder (proceeded Thor: Ragnarok)
Superman 4 (proceeded Superman 3)
Amazing Spider-Man 2 (proceeded Amazing Spider-Man)
Spider-Man 3 (proceeded Spider-Man 2)
Ant-Man: Quantumania (proceeded Ant-Man and the Wasp)
Avengers: Age of Ultron (proceeded The Avengers)
X-Men: Apocalypse (proceeded X-Men: Days of Future Past)
X-Men: The Last Stand (proceeded X2)
Blade: Trinity (proceeded Blade 2)
Wonder Woman 1984 (proceeded Wonder Woman)
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (proceeded Shazam!)
Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom (proceeded Aquaman)

I admit that when I came up with the idea for the list, I hadn't thought of just how many good to great movies (or at least fun ones) were proceeded by just dismal or horrid movies.

Was Thor: Dark World better or worse of a drop than Love & Thunder.

Age of Ultron if we're talking gap between movies 1 and 2.

Both are fairly precipitous.

I suppose that depends a lot on your opinion of Ragnarok. Some consider it the best Thor movies; others don't like the more comedic take and less comic-accurate take on the character.

I tried to stick to one movie per franchise/series. Thor was a difficult one to pick, honestly.

This one's the most disappointing for me. I really liked First Class and DOFP, but they dropped the ball with Apocalypse. It had a few cool scenes but the villains were terrible. And the look for Apocalypse was laughably bad.

Deadpool 2 to Deadpool & Wolverine. 2 hours of “remember when Fox made bad marvel movie” slop.

Were pretty big drop offs.

Both overrated first films. But WW84 was atrocious. Might be the worst film on this whole list. Mediocre film followed by the worst film.

I'd say Apocalypse and AoU were probably big drop offs as well.

Well, that's certainly *A* take.

I'd probably put those at the top of the drop off list. Though some would probably argue that Batman Forever wasn't that great.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (proceeded The Avengers)

Age of Ultron > Avengers

Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness was a pretty huge drop off from the original.

I legitimately debated which one I would do (Batman Returns to Batman Forever, or what I listed) - and went with the one that would include Batman & Robin

Oof... I didn't think about that one. I didn't MIND MoM, but it was definitely a drop off. The Illuminati was such a massive disappointment.

Black Panther followed by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was a significant decline. Although it should probably get special consideration because Chadwick died.

Superman options (all are correct)

Man of Steel to Batman vs Superman
Superman 2 to Superman 3
Superman 3 to Superman 4

Superman 3 and 4 are so disliked by fans as to be nearly forgotten

Yeah, that one is a hard one to consider.

I always felt Marvel should not have tried to make another movie; it's clear the loss of Chadwick derailed a lot. Ironheart's intro was also horrible (not that her show did her any favors either). Ironheart in the comics didn't have the greatest start, but she was never shitty towards Stark; that's 100% a Disney add-on.

Age of Ultron isn't bad.

At least, I don't remember it being as terrible as it's been described in this thread.

It's not; it's mostly how it compares to The Avengers.

A good movie following a great movie might be just as valid in this as a bad movie following a mediocre movie.

My personal choice would probably be Spider-Man 3 (mediocre movie IMHO) that followed Spider-Man 2 (an absolutely great movie).

You are way too generous. That movie is a mess. Even as much as I like the Sandman character

Aquaman to Aquaman 2. Jake Gyllenhall was nowhere near as good as Vinnie Chase.

Love and Thunder was so bad it actually made Ragnarok worse. Because of Taika Waititi.

Dark World was bad, but L & T bad.
