I’ve posted something similar before, but I still don’t get the love of this episode. I can think of at least 10 episodes that are better. What is it about this one that everyone thinks is so superb?

We're both going to get major down votes, but I agree. Not a big fan of Pine Barrons.

Part of it is that the storyline is never resolved. They build up the Czechoslovakian interior decorator as this super-human that may well survive the ordeal. So they never find the guy and theres a potential he's lurking out there somewhere for the rest of the series.
And the dialogue.
And the dialogue.

It’s a fun bottle episode that’s Coen brothers esque, that advances plot lines while being its own self wrapped story.
Amour Fou, the next episode, is just as good IMO

It's funny. It's everything we loved about the Sopranos.

It is exactly that!! I DO find it very funny. No doubt. I just though the experts claimed this as one of the best episodes based on general excellence

The guy was an interior decorator

Buscemi did a phenomenal job directing that episode. Such a hilarious episode.

Well stated, except much more of it all including some very tense moments.

We freshen up, a little prime rib. Maybe some blackjack. This way the day's not a total loss.

It's a great episode to me. Top notch dialogue and humor, and the fact that the Czechoslovakian guy ended up getting away and never knowing what truly happened after is one of the bigger mysteries in the show.

What was up with Paulie's face when he was staring out of the car window near the end?

I like the episode for comedic value alone, but did he really get away???
If he did, he would have eventually made it back to his mob, told what happened to him and there would have been retribution on their part.
The fact it's left unfinished would lead me to believe they did kill him, not outright, but he died of his wounds in the woods.

I don't get it either. As an Italian-American, I could appreciate so of the storylines of this show, but others like this one I found insulting and offensive.
Now that we have some insight into how warped Hollywood's "artists" are, maybe this episode was an inside joke. Instead of exposing their own people, they scripted out "normal" Italian-American characters having a flippant attitude and total cold-stone disregard for human life -- like them.

They shoulda stopped at Roy Rogers.

And I shoulda [censored] Dale Evans, but I didn't!
