U.S. TELLS EUROPE: DEFEND YOURSELVES, WE'RE BUSY ELSEWHERE

Elbridge Colby, U.S. Under Secretary of War, laid it out for NATO allies in Brussels. America's got bigger priorities and Europe needs to step up.

They're calling it "not abandoning NATO" but yeah the vibe is pretty clear. if there's a two-front crisis, Europeans are dealing with Russia themselves.

Trump's pushing 5% GDP on defense now instead of 2%. The free ride is officially over.

I think they jump on China’s pole before giving up their welfare systems.

That military spending will surely cut into their funding of migrants.

I do not support this.

Cold War veteran who saw the benefit allies bring. We are alienating them and embarrassing ourselves in the process.

I’m not embarrassed. Are you embarrassed?

How long have we been telling them to invest more in their own security? We are 30 plus trillion dollars in debt, running trillion dollar annual deficits, it's insane to ask the American people to spend a dime on any other nations security at this time, no? I sort of think our European allies have been pretty disrespectful to the American people.

Wasnt Israel's Prime Minister at the White House yesterday lobbying to bomb Iran to smithereens?

I’m also a Cold War veteran. Yes, Europe is important to me from a history and heritage standpoint, but I don’t believe that it’s our job to fund their defense. If asking them to do their own part in that is embarrassing to the US, so be it.

Time for you to evolve your way of thinking old man.

Amazing isn't it, we saved their fricking contenant, and for pure spite, our "friends and allies," would cozy up to a nation that does everything we supposedly do that they hate so much, for real.

They'll find their relationship with China to be less satisfying than their time with us.

This is exactly what I voted for. My tax dollars should be spent here, in the US.... or at least in this hemisphere.

Perhaps you can answer the question? I doubt it.

Which begs a question. Why are we helping China?

They have been deficient in their NATO obligations for decades. Time for them to step up.

How about an alternative: all members of NATO that don’t contribute to the required GDP % must have compulsory military service for all citizens for 4 years active duty and 4 years in reserve. They can use more blood in place of less treasure if hostilities erupt.
