I have a question about this sort of thing. If this happened here what would be a way to avoid the tax other than moving to Belize?

Do I get a tax deduction on unrealized losses?

Pocahontas has been Jonesing for that here for a long time. She want big, unmade wampum to go to her.

Don't be silly. The people that make the rules only want that money to flow to DC. Then they can skim it off, like it was Ukraine kickback billions.

Don't think so. Only thing i've seen is that it still allows forward loss offsets still, but those require you to realize the loss in order to use them.
I highly doubt this one will stay, as of now it has only just passed in their House of Representatives. Their previous law was deemed unconstituational that had similar language and this seems to be a very sloppily rushed out replacement.
Still fairly insane how adamant they are to try and pass legislation like this.

This doesn't even need to happen anywhere. Doesn't need to be looked at as "reasonable"

I know that it probably won't become law. I also know that greedy politicians won't stop trying either.

Next failed experiment a certain political party here will still parrot despite this being a disaster for sure as evidence as to why to not do it

I’ll spend time in prison before paying taxes on unrealized gains.

Tax on unrealized gains was officially proposed by last president and it hardly got any attention. Should have been shocking that such an idea had gone politically mainstream advocated for by POTUS, leader of free world.

This is what we'll get eventually with governance by the judgement proof. Those without assets could care less if they seize what belongs to others. The ruling class is immune and/or profits enough to not care
