BATON ROUGE — Gov. Jeff Landry said Thursday that Chester "Lee" Mallet, the vice chairman of the LSU Board of Supervisors, will take the top post on the panel.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Landry thanked current chairman Scott Ballard and said Ballard would remain on the board.

“Scott positioned LSU for long-term success,” Landry wrote. During Ballard's tenure, the board voted to re-integrate the University of New Orleans into the LSU system.

Mallett is from the Lake Charles area.

Seems like mallett has been pulling the strings for a few months at least. Pretty strange to remove a sitting board president before term end without a scandal

Mallett is a well documented crook that holds himself up as a pilar of the community.

Lee Mallett is a certified piece of shite alcoholic and treats people the same way.

If there’s anyone that’s fallen upward, it’s that fricking guy. Money talks, sure, but how this guy got in this spot is beyond me.

Seems like Mallet has been proving himself a 1st rate a-hole for years now. This is surprising even for Landry.

Might wanna be careful what you say

That being said, only in Louisiana can someone who was accused of manipulating workers comp laws/audits not only become head of the LA contractor board, but now Pres of LSU BoS

quote:

The Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors website describes member Lee Mallett as a ‘respected businessman’ who has created businesses ‘that support good-paying jobs and give back to the community’ -- but Mallett’s companies have been investigated twice by state agencies in relation to coverage under a state worker’s compensation program.

Mallett, who also serves as chairman of the State License Board of Contractors, owns several manufacturing and construction companies in the Lake Charles area. In 2018, his companies purchased workers compensation insurance through a state created entity, the Louisiana Worker’s Compensation Corporation. The coverage protects workers hurt on the job, as long as their company signs up for coverage and pays a premium.

The premium is based on the salary of each employee.

When applying for the worker’s compensation coverage, one of Mallett’s companies, Progressive Buildings, claimed one employee drove the equivalent of New Orleans to Atlanta every day of the week.

State records obtained by FOX 8 show the company claims it paid the woman about $18,000 in wages and then paid her another $95,000 in mileage reimbursements. That figure is key because the premium paid to the worker’s compensation corporation is based on the employee’s salary, not their other earnings and reimbursements. So in this example, 84 percent of the employee’s total earnings were not included in calculating the premium paid to the state corporation.

The $95,000 in mileage reimbursements to the employee equals about 3,400 miles a week -- equal to the drive from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Tulane Law Professor Joel Friedman reviewed the investigations and said “this could not be by accident.”

In another filing, Progressive Buildings claimed another employee earned $17,000 in wages and $54,000 in mileage reimbursements. The Worker’s Compensation Board found the company paid many clerical workers more in mileage reimbursements than wages.

Just call it fricking Twitter, damn.

What does it matter? It's clear Landry is the board or he thinks he is.

8810 rate for clerical is .18-.21/$100 so besides being a crook he is also stupid. LM throws up lots of buildings because his labor rate is almost non-existent since he uses halfway house guys who pay to be in his program.
His attorney also tried to sue me a couple years ago.

More evidence the Landry is the biggest disappointment and disaster as a governor in modern history.
And that’s impressive given Blanco was governor during Katrina.

Surprised Landry removed his lips from Trump’s arse long enough to speak or tweet.

This is the third very high ranking leadership member removed in about a week.

Wonder who else is on Mallett/Rouse’s chopping block

Follow the money. With NIL millions sloshing around and the new stadium funding in the works, The LSU board is certainly well positioned to pick up a few bucks and maybe share them with friends.
