BREAKING: Russia is considering moving back to the US Dollar as part of a wide-ranging economic partnership with President Trump, per Bloomberg.
The partnership would include:
1. US and Russia working together on fossil fuels
2. Joint investments in natural gas
3. Offshore oil and critical raw material partnerships
4. Windfalls for US companies
5. Russia’s return to the USD settlement system
If finalized, this deal would change the global economy.
quote:
- The post reports a Bloomberg article detailing a Kremlin memo proposing Russia's return to USD settlements as part of a broad economic deal with the incoming Trump administration, reversing Moscow's de-dollarization push since 2022 sanctions.
- Key elements include US-Russia collaborations on fossil fuels, natural gas investments, offshore oil, and critical minerals, potentially yielding significant profits for American companies while easing energy market strains.
- This potential pact could reinforce global dollar hegemony and alter trade flows, but realization depends on navigating US sanctions, congressional approval, and Russia's internal politics, per analyst reactions on financial outlets.

I could be wrong, but I would be willing to bet there is some level of Ukraine concessions and negotiations wrapped into a deal like this.

Not that they were ever going to be a significant problem long-term, but this is going to kill BRICS. If Russia is only accepting payment in USD, then China has no choice but to deal in USD as well.

That would be a massive coup. It would bring Russia under America’s economic sphere of influence while keeping them independent from the EU. It would protect Europe from Russia and Russia from Europe while also bringing them back together into the same global financial banking system. It would be a boon for Russian economic stability and remove a major threat to American monetary hegemony. It would essentially end the BRICS overnight.
I can’t see how this wouldn’t be a massive coup for the U.S., but I don’t see why Russia would be willing to accept it. They would be essentially surrendering control of their financial system to their greatest geopolitical foe and economic competitor in exchange for some stability. I don’t see any way Russia could spin it as anything but a complete capitulation. While it would be immensely beneficial to the Russian people and economy, the optics would be drastic for the political class. This would be seen as a bigger defeat than WW1 or the collapse of the Soviet Union.

This won’t sit well with the Ukrainian troops on this site. We need to be killing every single Russian we can, not improving our relations to drive prosperity

Possible they know BRICS is does not provide long term economic sustainability. Things would get a lot worse before they get better
Possible they want to get on the tit now before we elect another globalist that will sow division and conflict for profit
Possible they see what’s happening in Venezuela and Iran and know they can’t compete

This is also big getting Russia pealed away from Chyna if it continues that way. Chyna is the big threat and although we can never trust Russia its helpful to contain Chyna

The U.S. should have not been enemies with the Russians after collapse of the USSR, we could be great partners. But Putin’s USSR revamp ambitions are screwing that up.

I thought about this too. IDK how Putin would keep the Ruble from falling as demand from Russia for the dollar grows and demand for the Ruble correspondingly falls. Maybe Russia has some protective measures in mind.

In a world that makes sense Russia, India, and USA should be allies.
