Just passed my seventy plus year old neighbor while walking my dogs and he is washing his brand new 2026 Cadillac. As I am passing he says "how do you like my brand new Cadillac?" and I say very nice and his reply " I always wanted one". This kind of resonated with me and got me thinking have I got what I always wanted and my answer is no. Maybe I should fulfill this or is this an old person just saying this thing. I guess going surfing in Bali, Indonesia will be my I always wanted to or wanted one answer. I would like to hear some replies from people that have fulfilled this "I always wanted one" and what are some people's own answers to this. I guess it's a reflection day for me today.

I am wealthy enough to be able to buy any luxuries that I want within reason. I cannot afford a yacht or whatever but I have never stopped myself for self indulgent purchases. My biggest waste of money on myself is golf at this point in my middle aged life.

Across the arc of our lives, my wife and I have planned and saved for the day when I could retire and we could travel and just have fun. We’ve worked diligently in many cases choosing to work now/play later.

We are about to run across the finish line. We got to the end, we are so close…

A few months ago my wife was diagnosed with what is generally an incurable and terminal illness. Our time together now is limited.

Your time is limited too, you just don’t know it or may not realize it.

Go enjoy the thing you want. In many cases, it’s not much of a reach for most people. Go ahead, make the leap…

I’m about to. A certain sports car. Always wanted one since a child. And no, it’s not a Corvette.

I already have the only other vehicle I’ve always wanted. And no, it’s not a Corvette.

Always wanted to restore a 1972 Cutlass.

Always find better use of money. And I don't really know how.

Maybe when I retire.

Sorry to hear about your wife. That's never easy. My in laws were in this same boat. Had planned to travel, etc. but were never able to make that happen.

Sometimes it makes more sense to ask forgiveness rather than permission for a little bit of fun or happiness before you can't.

I just got myself a new (To me) Cadillac (Blackwing) too. Wanted one for like 10 years. I asked myself, if not now, when.

I have found that this feeling dies once you get it.

I’ve always wanted a Rolex sub, bought it 2021 and a second 2023 and now I’m numb to it.

Bought a sports car 2025 numb to it now.

Makes me sad that now reality has hit and I can’t imagine wanting something I can’t afford

1916-D Mercury Dime

When I was a kid, I’d look at the price for one in great condition and think “What idiot would spend that much on a dime?”

Fast forward a few decades and I thought I’d buy one and looked up the price and thought “What idiot would spend that much on a dime?”
