Buddy’s panoramic sunroof is leaking in his 2018 F150. Was quoted $3200 to fix it but that sounds insane to me. What did y’all pay to have yours fixed?

Haven't dealt with this but I know on GM it's a problem with the drain lines. Either get clogged or shrink and pull away from the connectors or something.

And this is exactly why I will never buy a truck or any vehicle for that matter with a sunroof, geez $3200!

Do you know where his leak is? Could be as simple as a kinked or plugged drain. Also, previous years F150’s are notorious for leaking in through the cargo light. Not sure if that issue exists into 2018 or not.

It was a known problem in those years for F150.

Same thing with my Outback.

I ran weed-eater wire as far as I could into the drain hole that is beside the sunroof and kind of plunged it and that fixed it 100%.

I saw a video where a dude ran weedeater string down the drain line and fixed it. Might work.

If it were an old junker I'd say just put some roofing caulk on the fricker and don't open it

If this doesn’t work, you can use a drain gun. They’re about $40-50. Made for clearing AC drain lines. They use those little CO2 cartridges and blast CO2 down the line. My sunroof leaked and that’s what I used because my buddy is an AC tech and had one on hand. Worked great, and never leaked again.

Best use pressure as last resort and be careful with that and not pressure it up too much and blow the rubber lines off the connections. Then you'll be pulling the headliner down to reconnect.

Try putting some lube on the gasket that goes all the way around. Had an older ford that used to leak. Used to have to lube up the gasket that went around the glass and it wouldn’t leak anymore.

Also check the drain lines.

That price sounds about right. A lot of labor involved to change that thing out plus parts.

Yep. Apparently my vehicle (not a truck - SUV) has a drain in the sunroof drain lines that can be clogged by dirt. Dirt gets in there and then the water turns it to mud and clogs the drain. Then if a lot of water comes in, it overflows.

The fix is disassembling half of the dashboard to get to the frame column and replacing the drain and drain line. That would be about $80. The work to get to that stage and put things back would be about $1,000.

Brilliant design choice there.

Wife had a RX 330 Lexus that did that. Got shop vac out and a long thin wire. Got one side unclogged but could never get the other side open. Sunroofs need cover from trees and debris.

Is it leaking down the A-pillar near the windshield, or leaking by the rear window?

Here's the fix:

2017 F150 leaky roof here. Water was coming in through the overhead console and at pillar handle area.

Bought a $25 kit on Amazon with a long wire little brush. Ran it through the drain holes. Put some water onto the plastic catch where it goes during rain and confirmed it was making it to the ground. Drain holes are right behind front wheels in frame. Seemed to fix. Also did a lot of reading. Looks like the Sirius antenna seal on the front right roof can leak at well. Both fixable if you are willing to spend some time.

I had a Toyota seinna with a sunroof that corroded and leaked. In the ten years I owned it I never opened it.

Use rv roof sealant tape, comes in 4 inch wide roles, sticks hard, stays a little flex and uv doesn't touch. Since it's on the roof, no one will ever see it. My trade in appraisal did not notice.

I would never buy a sunroof again
