Traveling to San Antonio next week with 2 kids (8 & 6). Spending a couple
Nights downtown and a few out in hill country.
Any recs on restaurants in downtown/pearl/hill country area? Probably avoid fine dining but open to most things. Kids aren’t terribly picky.
Also any fun things to do in the downtown area aside from the normal tourist riverwalk stuff.

We always eat at least once at Iron Cactus on the Riverwalk

San Antonio Stockshow and Rodeo will be going on. They have a massive carnival/fair there with tons of kids activities. Not necessarily downtown but would be good fun for kids.

The Esquire Tavern. Get the onion dip.

Southerleigh in The Pearl is pretty good.
There's also a few good places in the Quarry area of Alamo Heights.

Mi Tierra is downtown though not on the Riverwalk. Great texmex & margs. They also have a mexican bakery the kids would probably enjoy.
Most Riverwalk restaurants are overpriced meh. County Line bbq was a very pleasant surprise. Met up with some out of town family there at their request. It was a lot better than expected. Won't win any awards but it was a solid meal.

Which area of hill country after downtown San Antonio?

Mi Tierra was on our list for dinner one night.
We are staying out at La Cantera resort after downtown.
Was considering a day trip to maybe Austin or Fredericksburg. Kids might enjoy Austin more than Fredericksburg.

That's still SA. If you want a day trip your kids might like, if they're active, I'd do Pedernales Falls or Enchanted Rock. Both are different hikes. Another choice is Bracken Cave Preserve outside of San Antonio and Natural Bridge Cavern.
