Much like the first two trailers, this shows way too much. If you’ve managed to avoid the first trailers and you haven’t read the book, I recommend skipping this one too and waiting for March 20th.
Fully confident this will live up to my exceedingly high expectations. It has a confirmed runtime of 156 mins.

Yeah that’s an insane amount to show in a trailer.

Not sure what time these go on sale on Feb 20. I will try my best to update because I want these tickets.

I would be pissed if I hadn’t already read the book.

Looks like they really nailed the spirit of the book… Grace and Rocky’s friendship. Amaze!

I bought the book several months ago to read. Haven’t started it yet though. I generally don’t care for fiction, but I really liked The Martian (so much I read it twice actually) so I figured I’d check this one out.

Been listening to the audio book nightly with the wife. Great experience

Read it. It’s a very fun and easy read. I think I enjoyed the Martian a bit more. But not an incredibly noticeable amount more. Weir definitely has a style.

It’s one book where the audiobook really elevates it. It’s the best way to experience it.

Read it.
Then listened to it.
Thank God, because that trailer is a full synopsis.

You’re right, it shows too much.
But it looks awesome.
But it looks awesome.

Trailer looks like Al Gore's movie and Armageddon fricked and this popped out.

Yeah, it’s evident you know nothing about the book or movie because neither of those things have anything to do with this story. I mean absolutely zero things in common except maybe space.

Yeah they showed way too much. When I read the book I wasn't expecting it at all and it was an awesome twist.
If you haven't read the book, do it. The audio version is awesome as well. My wife recently listened to it and was tearing up a few times
. Can't wait for this movie!

I read the book over the summer on account of some strong recs from this board, and very much enjoyed it.
Pumped for the movie, but I an thinking that maybe the audiobook is a good idea, as well. Lots of people have mentioned that the audio is the best way to enjoy the story.
I also want to say that I appreciate Lord and Miller being faithful to the source material. Looks like they're really trying to make this look like it did in the book.

I have to think some focus group told them they had to show Rocky to make people know that this wasn't just another "must go to space to save Earth disaster" movie

I said it in another thread, but you have to market Rocky. He's in 2/3 of the book. While the book synopsis doesn't explicitly say Grace will be helped by an ET, it does say he won't do it alone.
The bigger twist, imo, is how Grace ends up on the ship.

quote:I really enjoyed the audio book but I'm extremely glad that I read it first. I don't care how great an audio book is (and this is the best), the author intended for the book to be read. A man reading to me in a woman's voice will always take me out of the story.
