This whole Bad Bunny debate has

sparked a lot of talk as to what an American is. Puerto Rico is not a state. Puerto Rico voted a few short years ago to not become a state. Therefore, Puerto Ricans are not American. Am I right here or just being ignorant?
Edit: I know that they are legally American citizens. But as we know, legal does not mean in practice.

You are incorrect.

Just for citation purposes (which a Google search would have given)

They’re very excited for their gay Papi to perform later. SFP will be here within the hour to give ratings

How can they give statutory citizenship if they are not a state read that again. A keyboard here is statutory idiot.

Ask a Puerto Rican on the island if they are Puerto Rican or American.
That’s reality. While they were granted citizenship, they generally do not consider themselves Americans.

Congress can give literally any group/demographic citizenship.

unincorporated territory
Puerto Rico and Why It Is Part of the USA but Not a State
Puerto Rico occupies a unique position in American politics as a territory with US citizenship

They would vote for independence if not for the handouts.

A lot people call themselves something else to try and be more special. Running around PR saying you're American isnt going to be helpful. That being said, thr amount of people that do not know they can legally be in the US is saddening. Furthermore, the amount of people that are mad that they arent in the coveted 18-35 marketing group is borderline a mental health issue

Having worked with quite a few Puerto Ricans, they do consider themselves Americans, when abroad and Puerto Ricans when home or the US.
I’ll take them over Israeli Americans, every day and twice on Sunday.

I’ll be honest, I don’t care who plays at SB halftime. It’s just an irrelevant argument. That’s my go back and raid the kitchen and eating time.

The whole halftime show argument / debate is stupid. I am a little ashamed for even taking the time and making the effort to respond. But I’ll get over it.

I have a good friend who is Puerto Rican. He has served in the Army as a Captain and been a Law Enforcement Officer. He considers himself a Puerto Rican with Spain as his heritage. He would prefer statehood but realizes they would be fools to vote for their islands to have to pay federal income taxes.
It’s a complicated issue.
I’ve been to PR a few times and really enjoyed the place and the culture. It’s quite third world.
