When I moved to Oakland in the 70s, one of the first things I noticed was all the empty Old English 800 cans on the sidewalks adjacent to the liquor stores. I decided to give it a try and couldn’t finish a16oz can. Nasty stuff. Don’t miss Oaktown.

We met a woman, a nurse, who had been the only white woman in the Sanger Theater audience for several plays, the plays that are totally black actors for a black audience.
She worked locally and some of her black friends took her with them.
She said it was OK, but it felt strange not to see a single other white person anywhere.
