A great personal W for Lindsey Vonn, but Team USA would be crazy to let her compete in the Olympics, and Vonn would be selfish in wanting to. If her ACL is really torn, then her chances of competing for a medal are remote at best. Better to give up her spot to someone healthy.

Give up her spot for someone who realistically has no shot to medal? IS an injured Vonn better than an alternate?

I couldn't tell you.
However, I read she's a half a second off from her normal pace and about 1.39 seconds off from the lead. It's good for her to overcome adversity so soon after an injury, but I don't know how much good she's going to do for the team.

Because the alternate doesn't have a torn ACL.

Is the alternate faster than torn ACL Lindsey Vonn?

She finished 11th in the training run today, right?
The US can bring three skiers for this event. I can assure you the 4th best downhill skier from the US wouldn’t finish in 11th place, barring the run of their lives.
Downhill skiing isn’t like track and field where there are often 10 Americans who could be medal threats

And that 11th place finish was her first run on this course. Considering the fact that it's a new injury, I suspect that she was cautiously pushing herself down the track to make sure her knee could handle the course.

We won’t know unless they use her. I just know that a spreadsheet won’t be able to answer this.

Vonn with her torn ACL is still by far faster than any American that could replace her with
You could use a spreadsheet with times to show you this before making foolish threads

Good news, we won't have to use the spreadsheet to figure out the answer.
Jackie Wiles finished 1st clocking in at 1:38.94.
Breezy Johnson finished 6th (+1.11)
Lindsey Vonn finished 11th (+1.39)
Bella Wright placed 15th
Keely Cashman 17th
Mary Bocock 31st
An added note to Vonn's 11th place finish

Next up was Vonn. As she motored down the mountain, there were times she appeared hesitant, a little shaky. She missed a gate and floated outside the blue dye where the snow is much less groomed. She didn't try to force her way back onto the course, but instead did so slowly with caution.
Sounds like she could have finished faster in an actual race where she would not be as hesitant and would force her was back onto the course.

For the sake of comparison to the other Americans. You’d be swapping out the 3rd best time for the 6th best, even with the bum knee.

They just showed her run on NBC. She really let up in the final 1/4 because it was practice. She was motoring and running ahead up to that point.

The times in the practice run are bogus. She was leading at a couple splits but backed off on the lower slope as she took a turn wide and lost her balance. Not saying she's going to medal, but she's raced hurt more than any other skier has, and she's earned the right to compete...what a story it would be. Isn't that what the Olympics are about?

Realistically if this was practice she wouldn't be pushing herself to win as there's no point. If anything she would be very conservative to be careful right? I don't know the answer
I do know NBC wants her to race because muh ratings

Uses metrics to support argument -- good. she's 1.39 seconds off the lead.
Ignores metrics to destroy argument -- bad. even with a shitty/conservative run, she was faster than two other Americans that could replace her.

OP is a moron that with 1 second of research could have avoided this
