A four-year-old tragically died after she and five other children were left alone in a pool while two women meant to be supervising the kids headed to a bar, police said.
The little girl was pulled from the water by her own sister, at an athletic club, when their mum sipped on drinks and tucked into food at a club bar, according to local cops. Two women brought six kids to a pool at the Deer Lake Athletic Club in Independence Township, Michigan, around 40 miles north west of Detroit, police said. The six children left alone in the waters were aged 12, 10, 8, 6 and 4.
The two women, who have not yet been identified, left the young kids with floatation devices, on January 30. They then spent 35 minutes ordering food and drinks at a bar, a preliminary report from Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.
Police who arrived at the scene reported seeing the young children around the deck while CPR was being administered by two men and a woman. Paramedics rushed to the scene but the four-year-old was sadly pronounced dead after she was taken to a nearby hospital.

They need to spend some time in jail.

As horrible and tragic as this is: What a misleading headline.
You made it sound like they were at a pool at someone's house and the adults left to go party at a bar.
That is not what allegedly happened. It seems like they went order food/drinks at the place in the facility likely not far from the pool. Hell they were probably getting lunch for the kids and needed 2 sets of hands to carry it.
It doesn't mean they aren't accountable in some way but the headline made them seem like monsters.
Don't these athletic clubs employ lifeguards?

Water is pretty close to my biggest fear with our little kids.
Tag in and out with spouse/friends, verbally, and make sure you get verbal confirmation back.

They should have just taken the 4 and 6yo to the bar with them
ETA: my mum used to drop me and my older brother off at the pool. Me 5 and him 8, then come back a couple hours later and pick us up. Not sure she went to the bar tho

Yet people question why certain people should be sterilized.
Same goes for idiots who leave their babies in hot cars.
.........and pit bull owners.

Looks like the lounge area is on the second floor facing the pool.

My 4 year old is an excellent swimmer, she’s taken swimming lessons for 4 years and has never in her life used “floatation devices”. The end of last summer was the first time that I let her swim in our pool without me actually being in the pool with her. I would still never leave her unattended in the pool, even though she’s a great swimmer (she can swim to the bottom of our 10 ft pool and grab pool toys and come back up without help).

Sorry, but I’m not leaving my child’s life in a lifeguards hands. Too easy to miss and it can quickly happen.

The story doesn't mention life guards. There should always be life guards at a club pool.

I've seen a suggestion that parents bring a wrist band to the pool. Whoever is wearing the wrist band is absolutely responsible for keeping an eye on the kids. You don't turn off until you no longer have the wrist band. It seems like it would've been pretty easy for one of the parents to go to the bar and the other to stay with the kids.

The first picture from the article shows a picture of the pool with a lifeguard sitting right at the edge.

Oh no doubt. My children are never out of our sight when I'm near water.
My point is it doesn't seem like the adults are the monsters that this headline made them out to be. Poor choice/judgement: 1000%.

Even if a 4yr old can swim they way overestimate their abilities in the pool. My 4yr old is example A. I don’t care how close the food area is to the pool, you just cannot leave a child that young unattended at a pool ever.

Aaaaaand that’s why you aren’t burying your 4 year old.
People are so stupid. This breaks my heart.

This actually happens more than a few times a year.
Very sad.

There was no lifeguard on duty at the time, and that was posted.
Posted rules also required adult supervision.

Can we get a "Good News" board started...the OT depresses me these days.

If this was me I'd have gone to order the food, left the other adult in charge of the kids, and the 12-year-old would be volun-told to help with the food.
