Was it a parent? A crazy uncle? Certain comedians? Cartoons or TV shows?

Who or what influenced what makes you laugh in your lifetime?

Mostly my father, who was a great story teller. Also someone in my family had Steve Martin (Comedy is Not Pretty) and Richard Pryor (That N* is Crazy) records and tapes and I listened to them as a kid. Those had a huge impact on my comic sensibilities, understanding the timing of a joke, etc.

ETA: Also Bugs Bunny/Warner Bros cartoons, and the Three Stooges.

I typically have a very dry sense of humor, which I got from my Dad. But I honed it in high school and college by learning in social situations that not everything in my head that seemed funny to me needed to be blurted out.

My mom had a wry sense of humor, though never vulgar, and she probably started down the path to appreciating smart and sarcastic humor.

Looney Tunes and Bullwinkle, as a youngster. Also Red Skelton, the Carol Burnett show (Tim Conway & Harvey Corman, in particular) on the journey toward my teenage years, then Johnny Carson, Steve Martin, John Cleese (Monty Python in general), the original SNL cast, and the movie Airplane, through my most formative years in jr high/high school, I graduated from high school in 1980.

A wide variety of movie and TV influences in addition to a number of very sarcastic people.

Mel Brooks, Zucker-Abrams-Zucker, Parker and Stone, Denis Leary, Bill Hicks, etc.
