HOLY CRAP!!

Telegram just sent this message to all the users in Spain. The country is on its way to North Korean censorship.

?? The government of Pedro Sánchez is promoting new dangerous regulations that threaten your freedoms on the Internet. Announced yesterday, these measures could turn Spain into a surveillance state under the pretext of "protection." Here I explain why they are a red alarm signal for freedom of expression and privacy:

1. Prohibition of social networks for children under 16 years of age with mandatory age verification: This is not just about children - it requires platforms to use strict controls, such as requiring ID or biometrics.

Danger: Establish a precedent to track the identity of EACH user, eroding anonymity and opening doors to massive data collection. What begins with minors could be extended to everyone, stifling the open debate.

2. Personal and criminal liability for platform executives: If "illegal, hateful or harmful" content is not quickly removed, those responsible could go to jail.

Danger: This will force overcensorship—the platforms will erase anything minimally controversial to avoid risks, silencing political dissent, journalism and everyday opinions. Your voice could be next if you defy the status quo.

3. Criminalization of algorithmic amplification: Amplifying "harmful" content through algorithms becomes a crime.

Danger: Governments will dictate what you see, burying opposing opinions and creating state-controlled echo chambers. Free exploration of ideas? Missing—replaced by curated propaganda.

4. Follow-up of the "hateful and polarization": Platforms must monitor and report how they "feed the division."

Danger: Vague definitions of "hate" could label criticism of the government as divisive, leading to closures or fines. This can be a tool to suppress the opposition.

These are not safeguards; they are steps towards total control. We have seen this script before—governments arming "security" to censor their critics. At Telegram, we prioritize your privacy and freedom: strong encryption, no backdoors and resistance to excess.

Stay vigilant, Spain. Demand transparency and fight for your rights. Share this widely—before it's too late

The Spanish government under PM Pedro Sánchez announced on Feb 3, 2026, new regulations including a social media ban for under-16s with age verification, liability for platform execs on harmful content, and rules on algorithmic amplification. Multiple users report receiving the quoted Telegram message, which accurately outlines these but highlights potential risks to privacy and free speech. Sources: Reuters, BBC, WSJ.

There should be similar restrictions on the Poli Board.

Leftist are inherently violent and incapable of impartiality. I wonder why they would create such laws….. surely not to silence any dissent.

Aren’t the algorithms the very things that bury opposition opinions to individual users? Also, I’m failing to see how algorithmic amplifying on social media = government control over content.

I think your question is on the money as far as algorithms creating echo chambers. I don't really think a "fair" algorithm is realistic though.

It's easy to say "just get rid of the bad stuff" but a lot of the "bad" is highly subjective.

Each one of those ideas sounds good, but will not be used with in any way other than to direct discourse and information to the direction those in power want.

I know this is meant "tongue in cheek," but I could not disagree more. I believe most of the Poli Board posters are imbeciles, but they should be able to freely speak their mind without censorship... no matter how much misinformation and drivel they wish to spew.

It’s the definition of “harmful content” that isn’t allowed to be amplified that’s the danger.

This won’t be car accidents or industrial injuries or things like that, this will most likely be things like vaccine hesitancy, political scandals, etc.

The Spanish government has all but declared its intent to replace its own people with the Third World, so nothing these bastards do surprises me. I just feel sorry for the proud Spaniards outside of Madrid and Barcelona. Like everywhere else in the first world, hipster assclowns in the cities ruin everything.

It took the Iberian Peninsula many hundreds of years to return the countries to Christianity, I'm reading a book called The Reconquest of Spain, and it goes into great detail (and includes how the First Crusade affected their strategy.) It wasn't fast and the different groups didn't work together consistently.

Much more recently Francisco Franco ruled, and rules and ruled even as rumors of his death abounded. Many people towards his end were still dealing with injuries from the Spanish Civil War.

It's not a country that has had a single objective in the past centuries. They sort of stumble around and each area is proud of itself and its history.

For all of them to agree on this, is really strange.

Republicans in Geogia have done this with the unanimous passage of a bill to prevent minors having access to porn sites. It was generally thought to be a good idea in the state. I suspect other states have done it. I personally think it is a good idea. Is it fraught with risk that accessing such a site with proper ID would expose one to being outed publicly by state officials? Certainly - the fix for that is for adults in the US to grow the frick up and realize folks like porn....adults should be not be subject to any more ridicule than a simple ball breaking for accessing such a site. I don't think anyone in their right mind thinks unrestricted access to porn by minors is a good idea....yes, its a parents job, but its also a parents job to support a child financially and emotionally and many do neither.

If newspapers are subject to liability from publishing damaging and wrong information it certainly should apply to facebook and social media. Remove that censorship in its entirety and now we are talking. Almost no one thinks its a good idea for the CBS Evening News to air AI generated videos of the president buggering children....but facebook will and has argued that they have the first amendment which protects them from that form of censorship. Personally I am all for allowing anything to be published or broadcast anywhere. If someone is damaged and can prove so they should be compensated. That should apply to The New York Times and Twitter alike.

Unfortunately in the same way tobacco companies were allowed to lie about research social media companies are doing the same thing today. And that is all fine and well, as long as they pay the bill when the data is sufficiently confirmed that they intentionally caused greater damage to make money, just like tobacco companies, except they actually pay for those damages. You do you boo....but when you are proven to be a miscreant who made your shite more addictive in order to drive up sales and your own internal research proves you knew it was damaging and you said to hell with that when youre caught dont whine and snivel. Py up. You had a good run. Most criminals die poor and badly...why should you be any different?
