Anyone ever had a stolen gun recovered/returned?

Long story short had a handgun stolen from my truck then subsequently recovered by BRSO ~1.5 years ago.
The detective that let me know they had found my gun told me it may be a while before I get it back; after case, appeals, etc. are all closed…
Curious if any of yall had been through this before?
Am I gonna get that gun back or does that detective have a new plinking toy and I should consider replacing it?

It took a while but I got back one in the 90's that was stolen.

Had the same thing happen to myself. Took years, and I had honestly forgotten about it, but I did eventually get it back.
I did not like the idea of having it after that, and brought it into a big shop that took trade ins and traded it in on a new one after that.

Had a break in with stolen gun in about 97 or so. Eleven years later, I got a call about it. Had been so long I forgot about it. The gun had been recovered shortly after it was stolen, but it took an overhaul of the evidence room to properly cross reference the gun.

cops had mine almost 7 years. Contact the DA they will let you know what you have to do. Mine was “evidence” but when I got it back it was obvious it had been a range gun all that time

8 years, but got it back last week
Mississippi dept of Wildlife and fisheries recovered it in a non related arrest and it took 8 years and constant pressure from a friend with some connections
Pistol was returned, magazines and holster were not

Mine was picked up 3 days after it was stolen......still haven't gotten it back. It was a cheap LCP. So I have forgotten about it. I bugged the DA for a few years and I just forgot about it. I kept getting that the judge had to sign off to return it and I don't think he ever did.

Oct 12 2013 my house got robbed. Took 9 guns. I had pictures and serial numbers for all of them. Sheriff office still calls every 6 months asking if I found them. I just made my mind up im never getting them back. A Sheriff or judge is probably loving my benelli m1 12 and 20

Had a gun stolen from my home years ago.
Some time later, months or even a couple years (don’t remember exactly) got a call from the state police asking if I reported gun stolen. I got super excited. Then they said they were just following up on the case. Never heard from them again.

I had my home broken into and my Remington 30-06 was stolen along with other stuff. The cops caught the guy and recovered my rifle. It was while before I could get it back and when I got it back it had rust all over it.

Leaving a gun in the truck is a no-no.
Hope you get it back.

I know a guy that had a Benelli SBE 1 stolen. It was shipped back to him 8 years later in a box printed “US Customs and border patrol.” It had also be camouflaged. He jokes now saying his free camo paint job only took 8 years.

Had one stolen out of my truck in my driveway one night, reported it stolen on a Monday, got a call on a Wednesday saying a guy got arrested with it in his possession, after flashing it to another driver, and it was in evidence.
Took close to 2 years to get it back, but I did get it back. I would call and ask for updates every 6 months or so.

Same exact thing happened to me in LP about 5 years ago. I got my gun back in a few months.

Future Drs broke into my truck in 1994 in downtown NO and stole my Ruger P93. Years later an NOPD detective called my parents in 1999 (I gave them their number on original police report) and told them my gun was previously used in an armed robbery. The perpetrator was convicted and sent to jail for a long time and the detective said I could have my gun back. He personally delivered my gun to my parents house as he lived near them on the Northshore.
I came home on leave couple of months later and traded the pistol in for a shotgun at Chalmette Jewelers!

2.5 years ago, still waiting. West German made P226, love that gun. It was a police trade in and shot like a laser.

Reading this thread basically confirms what I think would be everyone's feelings here on gun control restrictions. They're worthless. Apparently criminals aren't getting their guns thru legit methods (duh).
I don't have nearly as many guns as a lot of you here, but reading this thread, I really need to plunk some $$ down on that safe I've been putting off buying...
