Does anyone here have a kid who does cheer?

All of them. My old neighbor has four kids in cheer, I think their teams win 3-4 national championships a year. Oddly enough, it's $700 a kid in Katy (full of high six figure houses), but more than double that in a town 15 miles west that has a Walmart, a Popeyes, and a Whataburger, an average home value of maybe $175k, and not much else.

Total racket, but not as bad as dance. My 11 year old revealed what dance costs every year, and it's disgusting. At least the travel for my daughter is limited.

The national championship of a random hyper specific league, or competition.

In college football equivalents The winner of the dukes mayo bowl could be the dukes mayo national champion if you really don’t care about accountability- yet alone all the different conferences, divisions etc….

There's no one organization that crowns national championships in cheer. There' no NFL, NCAA, etc., that crowns a natty. Many tournaments crown a natty and grant natties at different levels.

My daughter did cheer in little league, jr high, high school, college and competitive cheer. Only the competitive cheer did they cheer in various national championships. Competitive cheer is a racket just as any travel ball sport. But let me try to explain it.

There are multiple "Cheer" associations: NCA is the biggest, but there are probably a dozen or so out there. Each one has a "National Championship".

Also within each Association there are different "classes" of cheer based upon the skill level, size of the team (large small) coed, all female, etc. So a team could be a level 1, small all female cheer squad that is 9-10yo, and win a national champtionship at any of the "Cheer associations. That same cheer gym could have a level 2 small all female cheer squad 9-10 year old that could win a national championship because they compete at a different skill level.

ETA: If your daughter has any aspirations of cheering at a college level, she must be in a competitive cheer program and be very good at tumbling, flipping just as a very good gymnast would, and also be strong at twisting and stunting.

He never took an interest in sports or girls except for cheer.

The scan is so simple. It’s not about the kids… it’s about getting the moms to compete with each other over whose daughter is better. It is the ultimate suburban mom competition using their daughters as unwitting pawns.

Daughter Kaitlyn wants to be a flyer but Sally is smaller and has better stunts. So I have to get daughter some private lessons..$$$

Kaitlyn can’t tumble as well as Sally and Sally’s in the A squad…let’s get her some more privates so she can tumble better and maybe be in the top team.$$$$

If Kaitlyn misses practice she’ll be left out of the squad for the next competition. Can’t miss a practice because we want to go to the competition.

The next competition is 4 hours away, for a 2 1/2 minute routine. The girls are at 1:30 and they want to stay for awards. Awards start at 8:00. You’re stuck there while every girl there screams and yells and you can’t figure out why. After awards are over, you leave, stop for food, get home at 2:00 in the morning after having spent $1,000 for a 2 1/2 minute routine.

But the team came in 4th, so let’s get Kaitlyn more private lessons. $$$$$
And next months dues have to be paid tomorrow. $$$$$$

If you want to get rich in America, tell parents you can get their kids better at something. Better than Sally anyway.
