Are satellites still supported or he is just too lazy to take it down? He has two.

I feel like satellites reached their peak in the 2000s, maybe early 2010s. But in 2026, I don't understand how satellites are still in production or working.

I don't have cable but I still have free cable channels. I don't understand how that works and no I don't have a firestick. I have some random apps on my TV. I stopped paying for cable a few years ago, I stream everything from apps or YouTube

So you don't know how stuff works, yet you also assume that Satellite isn't supported anymore?

Like the large dish you have to move? Or you mean like DirectTv?
Yes some people still use Direct TV. I haven't seen a large dish in a long time though. Popular in the 80s though.

But Direct TV has phased out the dishes and is all streaming based according to Google.

I believe the phase out was only for select areas. Many people prefer the satellite dish option b/c it allows them to take the equipment to the fishing/deer camp, rv, etc. I did that for many years until Starlink came about.

You know you live in a trashy area if someone still has this out in the yard.

Those were the bees knees in the 80’s. Those things were huge when you got up close to them.

I live almost 15 miles from anywhere that has fiber internet. Starlink is guaranteed only to 50 mbps in my area and I can get that from Verizon for about 1/3 the cost. It still isn't enough speed to cut my satellite subscription because when we're all home, it will buffer.

I could get Comcast, but I'm more than 250' off the road and they require nearly $10K in infrastructure improvements to run the wire to my house.

I still have DirecTv by satellite and prefer it. Whenever I stream DirecTv on a TV next to my satellite TV the stream always 15 seconds or more behind.

Had a buddy who streamed lose his internet for 4 days because of a storm and couldn't watch TV. My satellite was just fine.
