Vonn, 41, lost control after landing a jump on the upper portion of the course in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, spinning into the safety netting amid snowfall and low visibility. She was the sixth skier to start in the race, which had already seen multiple crashes before her run.

After receiving medical attention on the slope, Vonn was able to stand and slowly ski down to the finish area, but she was favoring her left knee and using her poles for support. She stopped several times on the descent and appeared in visible discomfort. The race was later canceled following the series of crashes.

Vonn's status for the Olympics is unclear and she said she will undergo further exams on her knee.

She said it felt stable today skiing even though she completely tore her ACL and has meniscus damage. She is going to win on Sunday! I guarantee you guys she is going to go all out as this is her last run ever and she knows it.

Legit hate this for her. I’ve had three knee surgeries in the same one. Looking at having the same surgery that got her back competing. It’s a Bitch of a rehab process. Here’s hoping she’s ok.

Vonn came out today and said shes going to try to race with a torn ACL.

Downhill has the be up there as one the most dangerous sports out there. Feel like these people are in a constant state of very seriously injured.

I just don’t understand why she was putting herself at risk a week before the Olympics.

Vonn is the prime example of a great marketing team behind an attractive woman in sports.

With how she's been made the face of the Winter games the last couple cycles, you'd think she'd have more than one gold medal since first competing in 2002. I certainly thought she did.

Props to her and her PR team for knowing how to target and capitalize on the largest demo for these games (white dudes).

This conveniently leaves out the fact that she is the ONLY American woman to have ever won downhill gold.

That is to say, you might have assumed she won ZERO golds if you knew about the sport in general.

She's also won 4 world titles. No reason at all for hate or for blaming it on PR. She's a beast.

And that kinda plays into the marketing of her, considering I'd imagine the average American sports fan knows nothing about alpine skiing.

I mean, the marketing of her is that she's pretty and a high performer. I fail to see how she differs from any other elite athlete.

More power to her, but it's amazing a 41 yr old can still make the Olympic team. I guess the younger gens are snowboarding etc rather than downhill skiing.

A lot of elite, good-lucking athletes in niche sports in the Olympics.

Not a lot of those athletes are marketed as the face of NBC's coverage.

Obviously she has sponsors with ad campaigns around this and also probably has contracts that pay as long as she competes so she will give it a go.

But it really sucks for her the way this happened. She worked hard and died the odds to get back.
