Looking for something with approximately 3,000-4,000 watts running power.

Any recommendations?

Spend $ on a Honda or buy any off brand, Harbor Freight has a good one for cheap if you take care of it. I have the same 3500 but the Northern tool brand. had a better warranty. Works great for my 30 amp camper.

I just purchased the 3500 Super Quiet Predator from Harbor Freight. I was looking at the 2000 watt, but when checking out there was a guy getting a 3500 watt one. He said he had a couple 2000's of the same model and loved them, but that he wished he had gotten the 3500. I am just passing on his recommendation.

I have used Predator motors before and have had good luck with them, but I always followed the breakin guidance and maintenance. I also try to only use non ethanol fuel.

I love my Honda. It never gives me any trouble despite only being run a couple times a year. It’s very good on gas and it’s enough to run my refrigerator a lamp, my Wi-Fi router and portable air conditioner.

I've had just about every brand generator at my hunting camps in the past 35 years. Bought a Honda EU7000iS about 10 years ago and it's been the best generator I've ever used. I've been meticulous about maintenance, changing oil every weekend during hunting season when running constantly. Sold my camp and moved it to my house. Still running.

I'd recommend the EU3000iS or the EU3200i.

I've had a lot of generators this size and usually people operating them that don't take the best care.

Honda is the best but pricey.

I hate to say it but WEN would be my 100% recommendation if you don't want to spend for Honda.

I had a bad experience with the only Harbor Freight Predator I ever purchased but I see here many people have had better.

I have 3 WEN (3500 and 2x 4500 Inverter) and all three have outlasted Predator, Westinghouse, Champion by many years.

One has gotten 20+ hrs of use a week for about 6 years and still runs perfectly.

In my experience, things like push button start tend to break on all the brands over time (or immediately) and often better deal to buy the the no frills pull start only inverter ones.

Any experience on Pulsar? I’ve seen some 3500 dual fuel inverter for around $359/$400 on fb marketplace. Or Firmin? I’ve read good things re WEN.

I've never had a Pulsar nor Firmin. A friend of has had a Firmin for a while without any problems.

There's cult following for Honda, but they are priced almost unreasonably.

The reality is while they may last long, many generators will with proper maintenance. I have several relatives that have 20-25 year old briggs, coleman, champion, etc.. generators that still run perfectly.

Honda 3000 inverter = $2,200

Predator 3500 inverter = $800

ETA WEN 3800 inverter = $700

Willing to bet you will get the same life out of both with proper maintenance and care.

I've got about 5,800 hours on mine with (knock on wood) ZERO problems. I've yet to get a predator to last that long for me(have had 4 of them). Granted they are solid generators, just not quite as solid as the Honda IMO. But your right, you can buy 2-3 for the price of one, just depends on what you value.

Hard to go wrong with Predator 3500. I have a couple and never a problem except for one that arrived damaged from shipping.

You can catch them on sale occacsionally and should be able to find a decent one slightly used on FB marketplace for 500 or less...

Any larger (like the 5000) and they are hard to move by one person. Any smaller like a couple of 2000's and they are louder and don't hold enough gas in my opinion....

I have 2 Honda 2000 inverters and I can link them together and get 4000 watts.

Those two are same price as a Honda 3500 inverter.

Also have a Ryobi 6500. It will not run my freezers/fridge (I have 2 upright freezers). They will trip the breaker on the Ryobi within a few seconds. The Hondas will run the freezers just fine. Something about the inverter vs non-inverter.

I don't have enough knowledge to understand why that is but it's the same as a freezer won't work on a circuit with a GCFI.

Champion Power Equipment has solid inverter models in that range. My 4kw CPE open frame generator is about 15 years old and still runs great. I had an issue with the fuel valve not working a few years after I bought it, would trickle enough fuel to run the generator at about half load, called their customer service and they sent me a whole new valve kit plus a new air filter and spark plug kit for free.

That's a GFCI issue with modern ice boxes and bonded neutrals I believe.

I also recommend WEN. I've had a 6250 watt inverter model for four years and it still starts on the first or second pull. It is connected to an interlock that powers most of my house.

My Briggs and Stratton was purchased in 2008 after Gustav. Never put ethanol in it. Always used Stabil in the gas, always turned it off by cutting the gas valve and letting it die that way. Changed the oil maybe 4 times.
That thing to this day still starts on the first crank every single time.

I’ve been wanting to get a bigger one but it’s hard to justify that when this one still works like it is brand new.

What kind of fuel efficiency do you get and can stand within 30' of it and hear yourself talk? The efficiency and quietness of the Honda(and some other IV generators) are part of the benefits.

I can chill on back porch 5' away from mine and never have to raise my voice when on eco-throttle mode.
