Longest you’ve ever been stuck in an airport?

On Sunday, Jan. 25 I left Las Vegas at around 9 am. Got to DFW around 2:20 pm. My 4:30 flight to BTR kept getting delayed by 30 minute, 50 minutes, an hour, all the way until it was canceled at around midnight. We had a flight crew all ready to go, but no plane. I quickly booked a flight at 8:30 am for Monday, Jan. 26. Cool. Well. There was a 930 pm flight on Sunday that had been delayed, so I rushed over to the gate to get on standby. At 330am Monday morning, we boarded the plane. However, due to various delays, the crew timed out at 5am and we had to deplane. I was still on the 830 flight, so just hung around in the terminal, which had no fricking heat and was about 50 degrees. We were all freezing. Had to wait on crew members, and the flight finally took off about 1145. Made it to BTR about 1245.
TL;dr: I was stuck at DFW for 22 hours.

I went to DC for training at our headquarters this weekend until Tuesday. My flight from DC to Houston was supposed to leave for George Bush in Houston at 8:30 last night and got delayed until 6 this morning. Spent the night napping in Reagan National Airport. American said they have been trouble getting planes ready in the last week and half and this will probably continue the rest of the week until they can catch up.

That sucks, but after hour so long I would have just looked to rent a car to not be a slave to the airlines.

Well, I don’t think I wanted to drive from Dallas to Baton Rouge in those weather conditions.
Sad thing is, early Sunday morning I thought I would just wait a couple extra days, so I booked a new flight for Tuesday and reserved a cheap room at the Luxor. I thought that if I got to Dallas I would be ok. Nope.

Experienced this in Craig CO during a Dec ski trip in 1997. Miserable and put a bad spin on what should have been a great trip. We ended up spending about 36 hours in airports over a 3 day period.

One time we were flying home from Naples. We had a connecting flight in Paris. Because our plane was delayed leaving that third world airport in Naples we missed our flight in Paris. We didn’t have to stay in the airport, but the airline put us up at a rinky dink hotel near the airport where we couldn’t even change clothes because we had no luggage. We flew to New York the next day to catch a flight to MSY. We didn’t have to sleep in the airport, but that was a miserable experience.

24 hours at O'Hare but that was 40 years ago

Twice I had 24 hour layovers in Narita, Japan. Took the train into Tokyo and looked around for a few hours then went back to the airport.
I remember telling my grandmother about it all and she told me the last time anyone in my family had been to Tokyo, they were dropping bombs on it. She was a savage Nana sometimes.

Stuck in Denver’s airport in October, 1997 for 2 days during a historic blizzard. Not a pleasant experience.

8-10 hours in BR due to a jet that aborted on takeoff.
They kept insisting they were fixing the problem and not to go anywhere but everyone ended up on an alternate flight eventually.

Been there.
Missed flight on emirates because delta connection was 30 minutes late landing.
Delta tried to swap me to first class flying to Moscow vs 1st class emirates to baku... We refused. Made delta pay for a room at the hyatt to wait 23 hours for the next flight. Got turned around in the terminals and ended up walking for legit HOURS.
Not a subtle brag, it was 20 years ago and the flight was maybe 10% of what it costs now. My arse would be in coach
Edit... Not 20, maybe it was 12-15. Idk. frick delta.

6 hours. Flying from CLT to IAH and some idiot went into terminal B and fired his gun at the ceiling. Had to wait an additional 4 hours to depart.

5:30 pm flight from DFT to LFY was delayed and finally canceled at 1:30 AM. Booked a 1 way rental and drove through the night.

6 hour delay in IAH after flying in from Anchorage burning up with fever and realizing you both now have covid is not fun.

I have never been STUCK *AT* an airport more than a few hours... but I sure have had some flights rerouted and delayed.
One year I had to fly from Huntsville to Salt Lake city. Sheduled to leave at 8:00 AM and arrive at SLC before noon. However, the first flight to Atlanta's hub had a mechanical problem. After trying for an hour to fix it, they determined that they needed a part from Atlanta to be flown in on one of the reverse connecting flights. Then the mechanic had to actually do the work. It was about 1:00 pm before our flight left for Atlanta.
Of course, that made me miss my connecting flight. All direct flights from Atlanta to SLC was booked full or already left, even on airlines competing to Delta. I told the connecting agent that I had to make it to SLC TODAY becuase I was schedule to perform an investigation interview in the morning. She said, "Well, the best I can do is to get you there at midnight by connecting you through Laguardia" So I ended up going from HSV to SLC through NYC.
At least I did get there at midnight, albeit rather worn out. And of course, my hotel was in Ogden, which is a 50-60 minute drive from the SLC airport. The next day was a bit rough. I was definitely trying to down some caffeine all day long.
That's maybe tied with the Huntsville-Atlanta-Detroit-Minneapolis-Long Beach trip I had once. But that's for another day.
