Weirdest thing happened yesterday. Turned on my back porch TV, only 18 months old, and it immediately told me it was having internet connection issues. (it has an ethernet cable in the back). I switched it to WiFi and it worked fine. Started watching a show and then the TV just died 5 minutes into the show. Wont turn back on, just dead.

Never had an issue with this TV in the 18 months I've owned it and it it just up and died.

Now you get to take advantage of the best part about a TCL TV outside...buy a new one since they're cheap.

I had a Samsung outside for maybe five years before the HDMI ports corroded and I had to replace it (with a TCL.) I didn't even cover it! Your biggest problem is having your wife help you get it off the mount. TVs are so cheap! I would get some silicone HDMI covers to stick in the ports, in case you need them for any reason.

Probably won't matter, but unplug it from the back of the TV for a few hours or a day and then plug it back in and test it.

Worth a shot. Had to flip the breaker a few days ago for ten minutes to reset the circuit board on my 15 year old dumb oven, of all things

I have a Samsung from around 2014 it has been outside almost 7 years now on a covered porch. Has been covered with a garbage back when pressure washing etc but has gotten plenty of wind blown moisture etc. also located above wood burning fire place, hasn’t missed a beat. Was a nice 4k tv back when new, with the cost of new tvs I just throw another Samsung up there when it does die. No need to blow $3k on an outdoor model.

Any idea which model? I had a few of the model 6 versions and they all died at about a year. Inside though.

10 disposable TCLs for the price of a SunBrite

That said, it does look like the outdoor TV game may change in the not too distant future, with Sunbrite making more competitively priced stuff and Samsung offering one. I expect we'll get some Chinese dedicated outdoor TVs at more realistic prices before too long.

If you bought it from Costco then return it, should still be under warranty. They will replace it, however, mounting a non outdoor rated tv outside generally voids the warranty.

What was the outdoor temp at the time?

LED/ LCD’s are designed to operate between 50-90 degrees F. Running it while below 50 degrees can damage the panel

One reason Sunbrite tvs are so expensive is because they have built in heating and cooling to allow the tv to operate outside of that range.

Personally I’d wait until it warms up a little then retry the tv

I’m not saying that’s definitely the reason but a good chance that’s why it failed when it did .

quote:

Running an LED/LCD TV below 40°F (\(<4^{\circ }C\)) risks slow, "laggy" picture response, significantly reduced contrast, and potential, permanent screen damage if temperatures drop near or below freezing (\(32^{\circ }F\) / \(0^{\circ }C\)) due to liquid crystal freezing. While storage in cold is usually okay, operating them in extreme cold can cause condensation-induced circuit failure.

Here are the specific effects and considerations for running a TV in cold conditions: Performance Issues (Below 40°F/4°C): The liquid crystal material inside the display becomes sluggish, causing ghosting, poor image quality, and slow refresh rates.Physical Damage (Near/Below 32°F/0°C): The liquid crystals can freeze. Upon thawing, the crystals may not align correctly, leading to permanent, irreparable, and often blotchy screen damage.

If the tv is still under warranty you should be able to get it covered but not if you tell them it was used outside

Oh it was a cheap Roku tv from Best Buy. I'll go Costco for the extra year this time.
