Wind and solar in Texas

About 42% of the power being generated in Texas today is wind and solar. Interesting how last storm everyone shite on renewable energy not working during cold weather.
I am not saying we don't need nuclear, or gas, but why dump on renewables to justify it.
I just want clean air and water to hunt, fish, and enjoy my back porch.
Grid and Market Conditions LINK

You must not know their maintenance costs and barrier to entry.

Outright lie

Let’s landfill those non-recyclable windmill blades in the middle of where you hunt. And take down a bunch of woods to build a hideous solar farm. Neither of which is remotely competitive with gas fired power generation but for their huge tax payer funded subsidies.
You’ve been greenwashed.

ETA: Downvotes, but no replies. I’m not a zealot for any single perspective on this, but it’s childish to downvote facts just because you don’t like what they tell you. If you want to argue that “today” is not over and the solar portion will not stay up there in the dark, fine. Do that. OP would have done better to say “currently”, but semantics games and splitting hairs are the tools of the left. Right now, you people just look silly.
Where is the lie?

Right, this same argument can be made of almost any form of energy.
Taking out all subsidies would be a great start.

Nobody dumps on it just because they are opposed to it on an ideological level. People support it on an ideological level. People opposed to it are logical enough to understand that it has a place and grid supply isn't it.

Maintenance costs? And running a power plant has no maintenance?!??
Somebody loves em some landman billy bob.

Are you old enough to remember the big freeze was accompanied by no wind.
what did your chart say at 5 am regards solar contribution?

The biggest choke point for Texas in a winter storm is the transport of natural gas to the plants
Most of the capacity that Texas gas added since the 21 storm is in the form of renewables and battery storage
It helped stabilize the grid. There are some people that feel threatened by renewables. It's important to remember that these people probably work in oil and gas and don't know wtf they're talking about.

Bc it's too expensive to produce

Is it cost effective?

We shouldn’t dump renewables. But that represents competition and the power brokers don’t want the competition.
The current issue is the transmission costs are high. The wind farms are not close enough to the population centers, and the technology isn’t good enough yet.

ITC changes are really hurting Solar at the moment. with ITC you could get up to 30% in federal credit for the cost of construction.
in a lot of areas, the payback now is longer than the life of the panels. only in areas with higher electricity rates does solar pencil. Payback vs lifetime factors in yearly operation and Maintenance costs.
Because of this you wont see the mass farms as you once did.
as for solar, i drove from Santa Fe, NM to El Paso Texas through the desert (had a stop in White Sands/Alamogordo, NM area. There were a ton of windmills, and a large portion of this mega windmills were not turning when others were. i can only surmise they were seized up. The problem with wind mills is they are usually installed in remote areas, so maintenance cost are high, plus the interconnect to the utility distribution system is higher due to distance.

so you've seen that episode and your still a blithering idiot, good for you!
by the way child, i don't believe you're a hunter and i don't consider a wooden platform attached to your mobile home a porch.
thank you for your attention to this matter.

In the current state of energy usage in our country and world-wide, we need an "all of the above" approach to get every single economically sensible energy molecule or whatever available, and that includes renewables. That's how I view things.

I've worked in O&G my entire post-college life. We power some of our O&G facilities with solar, either temporarily or long-term, rather than begging and paying the co-op to build distribution to us.

Renewables shite the bed in 2021 and so did gas supply.
It was a perfect storm.
