What makes this years #1 Portal haul better than last years #1 Portal haul

Reading same comments as I did last year about this time.
Portal kings
Everyone fricked
LSU stacked
Natty or bust
Playoffs guaranteed
It’s hard to build a culture with mercenaries and without chemistry and team/player development. This is the challenge today. The days of elite teams with waves of depth and talent development with high numbers of returning starters are over.
What makes this #1 class a sure thing over last year’s #1 class that ended up being a total bust?

Well wouldn't you say we got way better overall talent this portal? You have to. Bc we did. It's the 2nd best portal class ever. Now we have an almost entirely new coaching staff, id say almost all are upgrades. Soo put 2 and 2 together whatcha got??

You can hop online and see how much harder Lane works than BK ever did.
Top tier fan engagement. He's absolutely chasing down these recruits like a dog.
He has completely won over the fans, the boosters, the AD.
He's generating more juice than I've ever seen the LSU program have and he has not coached a down here yet.
And it doesn't matter, because he's had less than a top 5 offensive unit less times than he's had one.
A proven talent developer. A proven scheme.
The direct contrast the BKs energy vampire routine.

The structure of it! It’s like we were rebuilding a brokendown Racecar and we walked in and bought every piece we needed to be able to Win now. A portal haul has never filled every damn need we had before like this one did. It’s impressive 0 holes left unfilled after we lost a lot of junk pieces.

I think it helps to have really elite coaching with the players.
I also assume the rankings of this class are way ahead of the other, but I haven't looked.
This class has three 5 star players compared to 0.
This class also has 40 players versus just 18 I think. Sorry if my numbers aren't accurately.

Yes, it is harder, and I don't like it. But everyone is now subject to this, until something changes, if it ever does.

Nothing in sports is assured. What makes it better? They have more top end talent, as well as depth throughout this class, as opposed to last year. you say last year's class was a bust, but we spent a great deal of that portal trying to fix the defense. The defense was much better, but got hung out to dry by the other side of the ball.
This class focused on both sides. And we finally look to have a solid offensive line, with the most important (LT) locked down. And, we have a coaching staff now that knows how to scheme an offense, even with lesser front end talent, and who actually appear committed to winning, and not just collecting a paycheck.
If you want guarantees, I don't have them for you. If you want to know why the optimism is high, I don't know what else you need than the above statements.

Our HC and OC would be top candidate for almost every job in the country.. BK didnt even get a interview. There's your difference, elite coaches with the top talent

It's the highest rated transfer class of all time for starters
Combined with our HS class (highest avg rating/player) we are loaded for bear

I’d say time will tell. There are plenty of reasons to be excited. Last year had right ranked players in the portal as well.

It’s the second best because of the volume, not because all the players we got were high ranked. Last years class had a higher per player ranking, and there are a few teams this year that have higher per player rankings than us.
Last years class had 2 transfers who became all Americans. But fell short at some positions. I tend to agree with the OP, that we won’t know what we have until the season starts

Sometimes it's quality over quantity. This year Kiffin was able to achieve quality and quantity. Obviously bringing in 40+ players is insane but then to have the #1 QB, #1 LT, and the #1 Edge? This is unprecedented.
I would've been happy with getting a bunch of solid players or bringing in the top player at the three most important positions in the game. LSU said screw it, we'll do both.

Wouldn’t you say it’s one of the important components though? LOL!
The other part is bringing in championship caliber coaching on both sides of the ball. We didn’t have that last year on offense and everybody but Brian Kelly knew it. We’ve probably done as well as we possibly could to fix that part.
Another part is getting a top QB that fits what our coaches will want to do. Face it, we didn’t have that last year either. Again LSU has probably done as best as it could possibly do to address that part too.
Does all that guarantee a championship? No, but can’t you see why people would be more optimistic than not?
