The current whispers being floated around front offices and scouting departments suggest high school players may no longer be draft-eligible as soon as the 2028 Draft. To be sure, none of this is set in stone or agreed upon in any way yet. But it's a change that would certainly compliment some of other aforementioned suggestions discussed earlier in the article.

Would only make us more stacked

This would be incredible for the college game and a Jay Johnson lineup would just be unfair.

Smart move for MLB.
They can cut back minor league baseball even more and let the NCAA develop players. Also makes college baseball better, so more college fans will follow their team's alumni in the majors.

Exactly. This is to reduce minor league system costs and let college develop them for free and get players to the MLB quicker.

There are probably also analytics that show recency trend of more players being pro ready after three years in college vs floating around in the minors at 18.

As an LSU fan, I'd be good with it. It would make the best even better and less chances of smaller schools to the make the CWS. Again, I like it.

Smaller schools will also benefit of getting better players. The fringe players that LSU normally would take would likely look elsewhere because of playing opportunity.

Disagree. It would significantly level the playing field. Not many schools have the money to pay guys to forgo the draft like we have done.
Also it would significantly increase the quality of cbb and more programs would invest in it due to the increase in popularity

Smart move by MLB. Let the colleges lose the money to develop players which they don't mind doing esp. with NIL. Might help attendance in the college game as well.

This. I'd bet there are probably at least 5-6 players on LSU's current roster LSU wouldn't take if LSU could have signed HS players who otherwise went in the first few rounds of the draft. That would open up a pool of good players to smaller programs that otherwise wouldn't have access to them.
If it were to happen, I think it would benefit CBB on the whole to push the start of the season back until (maybe) mid-March to allow the northern school more of a chance to be competitive. Right now, CBB is an extremely regional sport. Outside of the southeast, no one really cares. To grow the game you have to grow it nationally.
Obviously, that would push the CWS back to the end of June/early July. But given there isn't exactly all that much going on the sports world at the beginning of July it may be an opportunity to attract eyeballs the sport otherwise wouldn't attract.

You wouldn't. Right now LSU is a very big fish in a very small pond. If you increase the size of the pond and add more fish, the competition to be the big fish becomes more difficult

Not sure people realize how much the draft has changed already. There are not that many high school kids going pro anymore to begin with.
This would certainly be notable but not a huge deal. I prefer the player to have the freedom of choice

Respectfully disagree with the anology. I see the fish as the players and the schools as the fishermen. If you’re a veteran of gamefishing and they put more gamefish out there, then you have a better chance of landing the game fish than a newbie. Now the quality of the bait (NIL bag) will certainly be a factor!

It’s still about half of the first round picks coming from HS. Pretty big talent injection to college ball.
Will be interesting if this brings a lawsuit

Scholarship limits have gone up.
I'm skeptical this comes to pass. The owners want it, but almost no one else does.
I think that this is being released now is because a scout or front office person wanted this out there to generate negative press about it.

It will be part of the collective bargaining, which eliminates the possibility of a lawsuit.
The union should push back on this though. The high school first rounders are the guys that stand to be the biggest contract guys throughout the life of their careers. And the union won't want the long term wage suppression. Which is all this move is designed to do.

A lawsuit from who? The players and owners of MLB bargain and agree to these rules. This isn't the NCAA where you can just sue and get whatever you want. The MLB, just like the NFL and NBA have the ability to set whatever guidelines they want and since they are agreed to by a players union, there is no suit to carry weight.
College sports wont get to the point of being fixable until this happens, but there is no reason for it to currently, because the players hold most of the power. So why would they sit at the table and bargain?

They wpuld have to treat international players the same for this to work. Should all be required to enter the draft
