Does anyone get Honey Baked Hams for themselves or just as gifts?

Speaking of hams. I was in Rouses 2 days ago and they were selling Spiral Sliced Hams for $.99 a lb. and had a few dozen of them in the meat case.

Those are the ones with the seasoning packet in the packaging to add to the ham as it bakes to make it have a sweet outer coating if preferred.

I believe the brand was Smithfield.

We buy five right before Christmas, and give four of them to people at the office. We keep the fifth one for ourselves.

I'll go buy a mini-ham on occasion for a gathering. Love having the bone left over to put in red beans or white beans.

These come out just as good as Honey Baked (I've used the packet and made my own glaze occasionally - with no huge discernable difference) for a fraction of the cost and minimal effort. Like you mention, you can get a big assed ham that will feed a crowd or a few people for days for like $9.

My hunting buddy does those about once a month. He's got it pretty damn close and they are delicious. I've done it for holidays and I doubt I buy another HBH unless I get one as a gift.

We get one of these every year for Christmas since we had turkey for T-Day and want something different. You're right, it does go a long way and for the price, it can't be beat. We eat the ham and I use the bone when I make blackeye peas for the New Year's Day meal.

I looked into getting a HBH at Christmas because my wife loves them. Saw the price was around $100 for a ham and quickly decided a grocery store ham for $15 would do

I do think the HBH is better, but not $80+ more better.

Dad works as a delivery driver for the local HBH to give him something to do a few days a week, so he gets one at Christmas. He got a smoked turkey at Thanksgiving that we froze for Christmas, and it was pretty good, too. I probably wouldn't order one if we didn't get a free one, though.

They don't always have it, but you can go in and just buy the hambone. Still has a decent amount of meat on it where the slicer stops and they are pretty cheap, perfect for a pot of beans.

This. I like to get them up to temp on the smoker. Don't normally glaze, just spritz with apple juice here and there. Good stuff and a pile of meat, plus you get the bone.

We do that about once a month or so, the smaller one not the big one.

You can go into the store and ask for leftover bones. They will bring out a few frozen to choose from, cheap.

Usually enough meat to get a couple sandwiches and make beans

The Holidays and that's it.

That's an insane amount of ham to go through.
