Does it seem weird now that we got outbid for Underwood?

$4 million per was too much last year for the best high school QB recruit since Jesus. Or at least since Trevor Lawrence. Now we're able to pay that for an OT and much more than that for Sam Leavitt. Worked out for the best, just weird how things have changed. If we had nutted up for Underwood last year, BK might still have his job.

BK would still have a job because he got a high school kid who wouldnt have really played and if he did would have looked bad?

I dont buy that

Well underwood was an unproven prospect. The big money we are offering are to players who have demonstrated they can play at a high level in college.

May be that it’s too much for a high schooler

BK would have wasted him and then we’d lose him this year.

Not at all.

Bk didn’t try to endear himself in the community, he didn’t inspire people etc.

That’s why people with big pockets and small pockets weren’t willing to pony up.

Kiffin is the exact opposite. He and his staff have been active since day 1.

He’s tweeting out around town. He’s showing up to our albeit terrible basketball games with transfer visits. His coaches are tweeting out pictures of schools around the state.

THATS how you get buy in. I promise you little things like tweeting out pictures of schools like west ouachita Ruston the Nola schools etc that they have already done make people around the state feel part of the program.

I would have been curious as to how high we would have gone to land Longstreet had Leavitt gone somewhere else

Things change. Most likely it was a difference in philosophy from the coaching and football ops staff. You can see CLK has a different approach than most. Once CBK was kicked out along with the AD, we are playing with a different deck of cards

Well I for one am thankful that Underwood decided not to come.
It helped the pimple that was BK come to a head sooner than later.

Reports were he got more than 4 mil. HS players are too unproven even as a 5 star.

It wasn't just that. LSU had also just lost 3 or 4 games in a row and looked like dogshit. Any shine the program had was burned off and all he saw was a bulldog faced old white guy that couldn't compete and couldn't relate to him on any level.

Scone has been kind of talking about that. I think we thought we could get away with not getting him. But it became apparent that we’re gonna have to break the bank to compete. So it woke up a lot of people. We’re paying more for our quarterback now. At least in a year by year basis. And more for our coach. But I think everybody’s paying more this year. The market has skyrocketed.

Its because boosters weren't all in on kelly. He didn't have their backing and it was for good reason. Besides, it is crazy what Underwood got paid. I was good with him flipping.

Kiffin was able to see every BK mistake and avoid them.

First, unless Underwood could call plays, that would have still been an issue. Second, Underwood is clearly not a bust, but he hasn't achieved 5* college status either. Third, Nussmeier would still have been the starter for the vast majority of the season. Nussmeier didn't cost Kelly his job. His hiring of some assistant coaches that didn't do their jobs cost him job. The CEO head coach approach only works if all the assistant coaches do their jobs.

I'm not saying he was necessarily shitty in his debut year but it wasn't a great ROI in the short term, which was needed with Nuss leaving and no clear faith in a number 2.

Might sound stupid but I would take any of the three QBs we have now over underwood. All three fits lanes offense like a glove. I was very disappointed when we didn't get underwood. No strike that, I was pissed. But it worked out great for us.
